Appiah aims to prove his fitness for interested clubs tonight

By 1970’s Gooner

We have done it before and we are doing it now.

It seems that after our last posting two days ago on the likelihood of Arsene Wenger expressing an interest for free agent Stephen Appiah the national press is now publishing stories strongly linking the Ghanaian player with Arsenal.

The player himself has, as reported on this site, indicated that he will consider his options after tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Libya in Tripoli.

This game will offer him the opportunity to prove his fitness to Arsene Wenger and other interested clubs which include West Ham, Portsmouth and one of his previous clubs, Juventus.

The player has been out for almost a year after a botched knee operation in Turkey when he was on Arsenal’s Champions League opponent, Fenerbahce’s books.

Such was the incompetency of the doctors that when Appiah complained of breathing difficulties after the operation they diagnosed asthma! The real reason for his problems however were the blood clots he developed on his left leg!

He is however likely to be on the bench for tonight’s game but he is such an important player for Ghana that his mere presence has lifted the spirits of his fellow players.

Instrumental midfielder Laryea Kingston says the presence of Appiah on and off the field bodes well for the West African country.

"There is something special in this team and that's Stephen. We are all happy he is back and the difference he makes to any team will be seen in the game" Laryea said.

Richard Kingson, a Wigan target, will start in goal and John Paintsil, the Fullham player will start at right back with club seeking Harrison Afful set to play at left back. Jonathan Quartey and Eric Addo are the central defensive partnership.

Chelsea's Michael Essien and another Arsenal ex target Anthony Annan (now with Rosenborg) will be deployed as the two defensive midfielders.

Laryea Kingston and Sulley Muntari have been handed the right and left attacking slots respectively while Haminu Dramani is expected to partner Junior Agogo up front.

For those interested the game will be on satellite station ART Sport 4 but more significantly will be shown live at 9 pm at the F3K Pub in West London which is very close to West Kensington Station.

Ghanaian soccer fans have an opportunity to watch the match on television at Metro TV.

Appiah to decide on Arsenal move after Friday?

Seen a Youtube video which shows some great finishing from the boy. " 2 points though:

1. Youtube vids are about as useful as Wikipedia
2. We don't want him for goals anyway

Can't really go by youtube, as they only show the strong points. I've watched him quite a few times in the past and watched all of Ghana's games in the WC and if he can get over his fitness problem, we should definitely sign him up! He could become a key player for us. I know I'm getting carried away but all the games I've seen him in, he's been great. Would be our own Essien!

i guess it very mush depends on his age i dont how old he is but if has fitness problem now and it take him some time to recover that might be negative,he took cahnce on aumury but he is only 21, but this player 27-28 he can still bring alot of experience and it be free tranfer so ist worth taking a cahance nothing realy loose especaily if its pay as play deal,i feel arsenal will have advantage on getting thi splayer because lure of playing champions legue football, portsmouth is a good team to but west ham all whats going there would put off some players so if he can proove his fitness wenger should go for him.

Dear 1970's Gooner...just a quick one...Why do we have two pictures of different players neither of whom happen to be Appiah...Is it me or are the pictures misleading and inaccurate and therfore not representing the player at all..better research please!!

I was just gonna say...Junior Agogo is not Appiah!

If he adds depth I dont mind but our first choice team looks weak with Diaby or Denilson partnering Cesc.

Thanks for pointing out the photo confusion. Now corrected!

steve i dont realy agree with you there diaby is very good but he has been injued mush time since 2006,as far delinson he had to be patient and wait for his opportunity and song looks very solid,it was the same of flam, fab, and clichy, look the top players no matter there age can rise to ooccation and can handle the presure, hleb, senderos and hoyte could not thats why there gone

Judge managers by what they do rather than what they say...Diaby has played central midfield once in the last 2 years at Goodison Park where we lost to a last minute Andy Johnson goal. Diaby didnt even play central for Carlin Cup games. He looked sluggish and clumsy against Real Madrid before getting injured.

All of the above doesnt fill me with confidence that Diaby can play central especially in the big games

like i said some player can rise to occation and some wilt under presure, wenger has put alot of faith in these young players at least for now in these young but very tanented players, i have sean diaby play he very much of the veria type mold he is very powerful i feel he will do very well aswill song and delison, but both these have had wait for there chance, i have sean song play when playing for chalton , african nation and in olimpics i believe my steve the is rock solid. it was the same thing clichy i had wait for chance he was not tested either he took his and has never looked back, same with flamani he had, he was third chose dm and once he had his oportunity he never looked back either, i think there never bigger opertunity for delison and song or ramsy. everyone is entitled to there opinion i think they can handle the presure others like you have your doughts and i understant why but we will found out if these young players will rise to occation or wilt under the presure

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you're using? I'm planning to start my
own blog soon but I'm having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

I was curious if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a
little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
