Although photographs in today's press show the Arsenal players involved in a mild confrontation, the footage of the actual alleged butt itself is difficult to discern. You can make up your own mind by watching the video of the incident here (on the side of this page).
The Football Association have requested television footage of the clash after referee Howard Webb confirmed he had not seen the entire incident.
The video shows captain Gallas stepped in to try to calm matters down before himself being confronted by the angry Bendtner. Eventually referee Webb had to intervene to restore order.
Apparently Bendtner had blood on his shirt and a gash on his nose. Adebayor was also restrained from going down the tunnel at the end of the game.
The video will be shown to Webb for his opinion. Should he indicate action would have been taken had he witnessed it the FA can then retrospectively issue charges.
Juding by the video footage they will have a hard job deciding what happened as it is not clear at all. However Adebayor has in the meantime apologised to Bendtner:
"I am sorry for the disagreement with my team-mate Nicklas. It was a mistake. We want to focus on the games ahead and rely on our squad's great togetherness to achieve a fantastic season” he said.
Spurs celebrated like kids last night as though they had won the Champions League, the Premier League and FA Cup. They seem to forget that it was mostly kids they were playing against.
Granted they played very well but as I said in my preview of this game, on many occasions in football you play as well as the other team let you. And Arsenal’s kids were not at their best last night.
Shocking performances from Walcott and Diaby coupled with goalkeeping errors at crucial points in the game proved too much for the young guns. Still this is why Wenger bloods them in at the deep end.
This experience will stand them in good stead for years to come as they take up the mantle of keeping Arsenal at the top of English and European football which is where Arsenal are destined to arrive.
The same cannot be said of Tottenham however who may have to make do with fourth rate Mickey Mouse Cups.
Sky had more than one camera there so we'll have to wait to see if they send the FA a better angle on the scuffle

ReplyDeleteWe had Almunia, Toure, Clichy, Flamini, Rosicky, Adebayor (for most of the game)and eduardo/Van persie missing.
adebayor was lucky to stay on the pitch after he deserved a second yellow late in the game. the rferee put his hand in his pocket but luckily he decided against it. Then we would have been in the shit.
ReplyDeleteIf you have agood look at the vid, Nik seems to be near enough on his knees by the time the camera has them in shot again. and gallas went off on one at beyour. when i saw it live, i thought it was gallas and bendtner having the arguement, but it was just gallas stopping him from confronting beyour again. my guess is that gallas was just telling him that on the pitch is not the place to sort it out. in his usual surley manner! seems like gallas is quite the leader, especially after seeing him pre match giving the team a good talking to.
ReplyDeletedont really know what id want done coz beyours scoring the goals at the mo. maybe a fine. if the shoe was on the other foot, youd expect some repurcussions for a lesser player. will be interesting to see how arsene responds after his "i dont know what your talking about" interview. the last thing i would want is ouur season to go out the season, especially if its due to us losing vs the spuds!

Don't think Diaby was that bad. On the whole we had most of the possesion in midfield. The real problems were the defense and Gilberto dealing with their counter attacks, and the fact that we didn't lok like scoring until Ade and Eddy came on.

ReplyDeleteWhen ade and eddie came on we looked like a team again. we kept the ball up front and looked dagerous again. we soon scored too.
I think everyone is overreacting. Look at the stats: more possession, more shots, more corners. For the first 3 minutes I thought we looked well up for it - then they scored with their first attack.
ReplyDeleteOur principal problem was at the back: 3rd choice keeper, 2nd choice left back and 6th choice centre back. But the entire back 5 (and Gilberto) had mares other than Sagna.
Our next problem was lack of penetration up front - but Tottenham had everyone back for most of the match! King makes a huge difference and dropping Robinson came not a moment too soon for them (worst shots/goals ratio in the league - and I think he may have been last season too).
5-1 looks (and is) bad - but think the Everton game in reverse.

ReplyDeleteMost of our defensive positional play for most of the time bordered on suicidal. When you concede 5, the amount of possession becomes irrelevant. This was also a game which exposed major limitations in our passing and finishing power.The major weakness was in midfield- Gilberto should be dropped- he is a liability and Diaby was not much better.This result was not a bad day at the office-performances in the past half doxzen games have shpwn that the progress of Traore,Diaby, Walcott and Denilson since last season has been minimal and does not justify Wenger staying out of the transfer market.

ReplyDeleteyou have to give the youngsters the time and space to grow. by going into the market wenger will be stifling that improvement potential. remember that arsenal's model is one of growing its own players as much as possible. have the patience and these youngsters will grow into stars....
Can I just ask you how you all feel about the fact that your manager would not, during an interview, acknowledge that Spurs had been the better side, as most managers would after a 5-1 humbling?
ReplyDeletelol, what do you want el? we lost 5-1, you think arsene needs to say that they played better than us? at the end of the day, its spurs and so what we need to concentrate on is ourselves and being better prepared for that kind of game, atmosphere, situation, ect. its clear that we were a pile of crap yesterday. Were not here to blow the proverbial spud trumpet, were here to win games. it shows a distinct lack of squad depth if you ask me. we had a fair few 1st team players on and it still went tits up. shows how fragile we can be with poor defensive players such as hoyte, traore and gilberto. having said that, I think the scoreline certainly did them some favours. own goal, goalkeeping error ect. really wasnt our day.

el are u joking or what? Wenger did actually agree the Spuds were better last night. Better than our mostly reserve & kids side I must add. Only 3 regulars started for us and a couple more only came on in the last 15 mins. Good luck in the micky mouse cup final but I dont think its a clever idea to rest key players like King for vital league games as u did against Chelscum because your only a few points off the relagation zone.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt adebayor was in the wrong, or "more wrong" and he should be punished internally behind closed doors etc. who knows he may have already been, but i think the fact adebayor is headbutting a teenager, and that teenager didnt retaliate, it almost seems as if he tries to calm adebayor down.
