Pathetic Mr Wenger

By 1970’s Gooner

What a pathetic performance. What a pathetic choice of formation and pathetic choice of players to play in that formation.

Arsene Wenger must have seen that recently the team were struggling to cover for a passenger of a player called Eduardo. And you can not really play with ten men in the Premier League. Although it has to be said that the rest of the players had a bad game.

He must have also seen in the previous two games that the two central midfielders Diarra and Gilberto were just about average in terms of winning the ball but significantly lacking in being creative.

And when the opponents are pushing tight on you it’s not only strength that you need but skill. Fabregas and Hleb used to provide it but now that they could not play surely Rosicky should have been the one to play just behind Adebayor.

It was bleeding obvious that this was evidently lacking in all the three away games that Arsenal played. We were lucky that with Hleb and Flamini in the side against Villa we got enough goals in the first half to scrape through.

But when these two were missing against Newcastle we were lucky to score in the 4th minute and then had to defend that for the rest of the game.

This was because again Mr Wenger still played Eduardo, who was again a passenger and deprived the midfield of any creativity by keeping Rosicky on the wing.

Arsene Wenger usually gets these things right but when he gets them wrong boy does he get them wrong. Isn’t there anyone in the Arsenal boot room to say anything to him?

Arsenal can win at Middlesbrough by dropping Eduardo and playing Rosicky central

like against newcastle, eduardo got no service. He shouldnt of started in this formation. He needs hleb's and fab's clever passes, not toure's long passes.

what a horrible fucking post mate.

arsenal were shit. eduardo didnt play particulary worse than adebayor for instance, whos first touch and vision is shockingly bad.

we deserved to lose. but your negativity is what is pathetic.

To wandarah
I am not being negative mate I am being construcively critical as I have been on some of my other postings. Just because we support Arsenal does not mean that we cannot criticise; just as when we win we can eulogise about the team and Arsene Wenger.

WHAT PLANET ARE ARSENAL FANS ON!!

ROSICKY IS CRAP. FACE IT.

ADEBAYOR IS JECKYL OR HYDE WHICH ISNT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING SIDE.

AGAINST BORO KOLO WAS OFF COLOUR, SAGNA HAD HIS FIRST BAD GAME, EBOUE PROVED HE IS NOT A WINGER, EDUARDO WAS NOT THERE, CLICHY HAS DROPPED HIS FORM AND ALMUNIA IS NOT A TOP GOLIE.

Gooner_32 said...

You don't know what your talking about. Adeybayor was the biggest let down. He didn't hold the ball up at all.

How long did it take Henry, Pires, Bergkamp to settle in the Premiership? Eduardo needs time.

Play Bendtner instead of Adeybayor !!!

Lets see how we do next week against the strikerless Chelsea with our first 11 back

That was a shocking performance. Diarra and Gilberto shouldnt be played together. They lack creativity. More runs need to made. Midfielders waited for the ball to come to them.

Gilberto is slow and looks past his use-by date. Walcott provided some inspiration for a few moments after coming on. Had a few good runs and was unlucky to not get a free kick out of one of them.

Referee was shocking as well I think

PhilTheGooner said...

Oh yes, he's pathetic alright. Still top of the Premiership, now with a serious injury crisis behind us, best start to the season in club history, a squad put together for about £3.50 and a bag of crisps...

SACK WENGER NOW!

Vladimir Petrovic's work permit said...

The price of success is the sudden appearance of the 'plastic fan' claiming a slice of the glory. But once a few uncomfortable days occur, they start to produce posts like this one. After the best start imaginable to our season, it take a couple hours for the disgruntled to start their whining (no, its not constructive criticism). If you want to be a pundit, go work for Sky. If you want to be an Arsenal fan, support the Gunners.

Anonymous said...

it was a bad day for all involved, but this "mr wenger" reflects more poorly on you than on the team. Show some respect, please.

Robin said...

Eduardo has to get in the games more, without technical midfielders he´s a passenger, play Bendtner!

Sell Gilberto, too slow for the game now, Italy would suit him better.

These two make it too hard for the rest..

fuck off, you absolutely miserable prick. How dare you call our manager pathetic, we're nothing without him, we owe our widely respected modern identity and recent successes to him. You may think that's eulogising, but honestly, it's just the fucking truth. I mean, who the fuck do you think you are, calling Wenger pathetic? Get a fucking grip and get some perspective. Constructively critical, fucking bollocks. There is nothing constructive or especially insightful about anything that is posted here, just aimless doom mongering and hollow 'should've done this-this-and-this'ery. Why all the doom and gloom, its been a difficult 8 day period, we looked very tired. We are missing Rvp , Cesc, Hleb and flamini most of which are our creative players. Who wouldnt be affected with such influential players missing from a starting line up.

indeed, exactly what "insights" are in this post anyway?

.......and we are still top of the prem. I am delighted!!

I think what this post is trying to say is that it could have been different if Arsene had chosen a different formation with Rosicky in the midddle. also that he could have dropped eduardo. I agree with this assessment myself.

wandarah said...

with all due respect 70's gooner. i do not think you are being constructive. your post starts with a poll entitled 'who was the worst arsenal player'

I think sooner or later the unbeaten record had to go.This is the so called law of averages or probability.I suppose the signs were all there what with three games in eight days.I thinknthe old guy at OT must be sniggering at his predicition.
fear not .His turn to fall will come sooner or later what with Pool losing .
I think part of the reason AW lost is his insistence on threading passes in the box.He shd know Bor would defend in depth. For a manager of his caliber it is criminal.
Next up Chelsea. Make no mistake . The blues are on a run and if they have not lost in 10 to 13 matches it is time for them to do so.

Wrighty7 said...

At the end of the day, the whole team played as bad as each other. We should'nt single anyone out, we win as a team and lose as a team. We have to accept that u will see a bad performance like this from time to time, it happens to every team! Lets not dwell on it, its over and just concentrate on getting back to winning ways. Which i'm sure is just around the corner. WE ARE ARSENAL!

Anonymous said...

wenger messed it up but he so often gets it right we shouldn't grumble

keefboz said...

Just beacuase in the last couple of games adebayor has bagged a couple of good goals, doesnt mean he didn't play badly both times. Drop him NOW and play Bendtner so i can stop pulling my hair out!

Anonymous said...

I agree with last anon. If a player is not playing well then they need to be dropped. Ade, Eduardo and Gilberto in particular

Anonymous said...

What is truly pathetic is your overreaction. Get a grip.

Anonymous said...

Gilberto was the worst of the lot, i thought he would be dropped after the crap preformance he brought against newcastle, so much for rotating. Also what the hell does Bendtner have to do to get a start lol...

Smudger said...

What an absolutely ridiculous over-reaction. We're going to have bad games in a season. Wenger has put together an incredible side for a pittance, written off by all sections of the media at the start of the season and yet Wenger has got the side playing blistering football.

Alos ridiculous is your scapegoating of a guy who has only just arrived at the club. Maybe if you paid attention to things, you would've heard Wenger say he needs until at least January to settle in properly, giving him time in games like the Boro game is what builds him up. The boss clearly recognised his struggle and hence he was subbed at half time.

So to sum it up, we've had 3 below-average performances in the league, got 4 points, and are still 1 point clear with 4 first team players coming back (Cesc, Hleb, Flamini, van Persie). But after a couple of dodgy performances, relegation surely beckons...

Anonymous said...

Smudger what you say is right but the annoying thing is that it did not have to turn out to be like this. If only Wenger chose to play rosicky in cm and denilson then we may not have lost the game.

Anonymous said...

The blame should be on people like Gilberto, Diarra and Adebayor. Eduardo really had no service so couldnt do anything, maybe if Arsene had played Denilson, Eduardo would have been better. Dont know what was wrong with Ade, and surely cant Arsene see Gilberto is not good enough? Arsenal deserved to loose, plain and simple

Anonymous said...

Lets hope one of Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini or RVP will be back for the game of Chelsea because if they arent back, thats goodbye to the title.

Im a massive fan of Kolo's, but over the past few games he seems to think that by boooting the ball up the pitch hoping for it to get to adebayour were somehow gonna make something happen. Maybe if he was on target and there was an effective striker playing off bayour, such a Vp. its not the case. In the end i was laughing at how stupid it was. they attack we defend our hearts out, get the ball, pass to toure, looks up, hoofs it over everyone and theyre attacking again. I would say it happened around 8 times. how can someone lose the ball 8 times and still not think to play it on the floor. thats our strength. give and go football. either toures lost the balls to play a pass without losing it, or hes been told to do that by wenger. are we arsenal or are we bolton? coz i dont think they know right now. shocking play today, and there was I thinking arsenal would make me feel better after last nights fight. the problem in the middle of the pitch is clear, and we desperatley need cesc or hleb back. gilberto has about as much positive energy as an emo on valium. he doesnt care anymore, get someone in who does. and bendtner is so much better than eduardo, how does wenger not see it?! granted beyour is shocking at times, but he still gets some goals, which were in short supply of at the mo. lets hope wenger sees some sense, and before chelski, let alone spurs!! :S

One other factor to take into account is that AW has committed himself to more than just the manager's job. Sometimes when juggling like this, it's possible to lose a bit of focus. Maybe he should've appointed a Director of Football in the summer for this purpose, just hope he doesn't lose sight of that.

eboue, eudardo, manuel and gilberto bought for a pittance taking in the region of 200k a week outa the club and they are all fcuking useless. ill really celebrate the first trophy without STROLLERS stamp on it. wenger cant see whats happening on the field. FERGIE to kick his arse AGAIN this season.
(ive got 70 million in the bank LOL)and en empty trophy cabine

Apart from a few comments on here, everything else is pure sh!t and doom mongering.

4 or 5 creative/influencial players out at one time would cause any team to struggle.

Lets not get carried away here. EVERY team has bad periods, EVERY TEAM. You can't seriously think we'll not slip up here and there, it's inevitable. There are a lot of teams in the prem that if they get their performance right on the day and catch a so called bigger club on a bad day, then they'll get a result. Bolton beat Man U, Reading beat Liverpool etc.

It happens. Rather than sl@gging off Wenger, as you have no credentials to do so, lets get behind the team for the next game...

Anonymous said...

Ade seems to be unwilling to work with Edu. I dun believe Edu is shit especially if you see how he played with Bendtner.

I would think Gilberto and especially Adebayor as the main perpetrators. Ade needs to come to earth and stop thinking he is a superstar. No willingness to go for the ball until we conceded the 2nd and tried to be cheeky with the ball when we are chasing the game.

Who's the mug that said, "Lets hope one of Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini or RVP will be back for the game of Chelsea because if they arent back, thats goodbye to the title."

Many of you are saying that it's only a loss and we're still top of the table.

The thing is that winning or losing doesn't matter. It's the effort and the performance you put in. And if this keeps going then we're in trouble.

Anonymous said...

there is some punk basterd named"wandarah" saying that were ****. Eduardo looked more like a lost footballer in the first 45mins and walcot only touched the ball for about 4 mins. We defended desperetly in the first 45 mins and we were like reading. I know it is hard to play 3 away games in 8 games but guess what- we got 4 points out of a possible 9. We were the worst team in the top 4 THIS WEEKEND. This is a lesson. Our squad is a bit small, we get injuries and we lose. WHY NOT BUY A STAR ? GBP20m star?! Wenger MUST do that !

Anonymous said...

we were humiliated with our performence and boro fans began to sing "top of the league, you are having a laugh". Chelsea who got a 2-0 win over sunderland are coming to the emirates and i am waiting for our injured players to come back. I trust Wenger and we lost because it was our 3rd away game in 8 days and we were extremely tired. Take away to liverpool as an example, we were brilliant BECAUSE WE didn't play eduardo. Many thought at the start - "is he a another star, or a flop".? I have to say that he is a flop. he is not worth GBP7.5m to me at all. The perfect game to bounce back is against steua bukarest in the CL. RISE UP GUNNERS< SHOW WHAT U GOT>

Wrighty7 said...

Every team in this league will have a bad run of games. Maybe this is our's, lets not get carried away. Who honestly thought we'd be a point clear of ManUre in early December at the beginning of the season?! We've been on a fantastic run, and im sure we will ride the storm and bounce back to our winning ways. Any team would struggle with key players out like us. Believe in this squad. I do.

Anonymous said...

One loss after so many league games and this is how you react?? I suppose you're gonna want Wenger sacked next? Calm down.....unless u think you can do a better job? U obviously do

Anonymous said...

your pathetic. how on earth do you blame this on eduardo. agreed thomas should have played a central role. but your tone is disgraceful. this is middlesbrough the most average of average teams. they'll lose to derby next weekend but still manage a result like this, like the 5-1 drubbing they gave man u a few seasons ago. 4 of our biggest names were missing - we got beaten / smacked. it happens - calm down

Goons_with_Guns said...

I'm sick of seeing Alumnia rush out the defence try and spare his blushes. He's done it all along since the 50th game we lost to Manure (and beforehand). If he hasn't learned his timing by now, HE NEVER WILL! bench him and bring in Mad until we find a better one.

Anonymous said...

Sack Wenger now!!!!

But seriously, it's not just the loss, it's the fact that over the last 3 games the team seems to have lost its bottle completely. Tough games up north, whatever. Our next 4 league games(Chelscum, Tiny Totts, Pompey and Everton) are far tougher than both Boro and Newcastle. We need to buck up our ideas or we will be out of the top four by the turn of the year.

It's not fickle to say this, people need to open their eyes to the reality and the effect this poor recent run might have on our whole season!

Anonymous said...

I was joking when I said Sack Wenger (just a bit of sarcastic hysteria) but the rest was all serious

G. said...

i can see both sides of ths coin - both that it's an overreaction and that wenger is shite.

i have to say though that it's not the first time wenger has been criticised for bad tactics. he is a genius coach, a great talent spotter. BUT please can somebody explain to me why in god's name he did not play rosicky in the middle alongside either diarra, denilson or gilberto?? it is so obvious, so so obvious. we lack creativity at the moment. however bad rosicky is playing he will create more than gilberto or diarra and it's all about the middle of the pitch, not a small channel down the wing.

also theo has looked sharp recently and he could do a job down the left channel. it was boro for god's sake! i dont buy this "theo wont protect clichy" rubbish. it is boro. we could outscore them if we played our game.

with those two in the team, eduardo and adebayor (who im still not convinced by) would have had better service. it is so simple i am honestly lost for words. especially after this very team was so lucky against newcastle. putting bentner on up front was never going to change anything!

i swear i'm just calling it as i see it - if someone can tell me why any of this is wrong i'd love to know. but the team he put out yesterday was just wrong. we were playing boro and even with reserves we should get a point.

norfbank said...

playing gilberto and diarra is suicide absolutely nothing going forward. For me Denilson has been a let down i thought with the injury to fabregas he would taken his opportunity to impress. He is a talent no doubt but he seems to play within himself. i cant remember seeing too many lung busting 30 yard runs into the box from him. Whats more annoying is he seems to have an eye for goal

Anonymous said...

Of course we are all upset by the performance, it does not make us a bad team and all those slating individual players should remember those same players have got us to the top of the league

Yes, we probably all believe Gilberto and Diarra don't work together, not enough creativity

The worst for me was the lack of passion and ability (for one of the top sides in our country) - we barely created any chances

Complements to Boro, they played well. We played, as a team, atrociously.

You won't see ManU play like that. They will lose, but they will be unlucky to lose - or at least have created enough chances to win

Yesterday, we lacked enough creativity to even create chances

That was the most disappointing thing. We will win many more games this season, but at crunch time, when key players are out, we need the creativity to come from others. Too many battlers, not enough ideas.

I can blame Wenger for having too much faith in the rest of the team, but its not his fault they played without ideas, without variety.

They are first team players, for a top club in a top league - yet they could not vary their play enough to beat a bottom half side.

Blame the players for having a collective off day. And get behind them to go another 15 games and earn another 36 points. Then let the fun begin

I beleive in order for Arsenal to be as consistent as ManU or Chelski, we need to be honest about certain players underperforming. It happened with Vieria and Henry, Arsene has emotional attachment to some players. Vieria mentioned after he left arsenal that he knew he won't be dropped even if he's playing badly (sure that rarely happened) but we need to be honest. Alumnia is not a good keeper, he's just above average. Adebayor thinks he's great but he's not even that good yet; still raw and needs to learn. Eboue is not a winger and he's very unprofessional and lacks concentration. Diarra is a DEFENSIVE Midfielder - he breaks up play not create! If Wenger wants to play two DM's he should play a creative player also in the middle. I'm no coach but at this point I feel Lehman should come back (I've always said that regardless of this result) cos Alumnia is not good enough. Bendtner should get his chance and Walcott should start. Bring Eboue in if we need to tighten the wing so we attack first and defend later. Eduardo should be played with a creative partner with good control such as Van P or Bendtner, never Adebayor.

Well listen to the great armchair expert 1970's gooner ! There's no much constructive in there, mainly just a prolonged whinge. Why pick on a new player like Eduardo, when some of our more established players were just as poor. Team performances win or lose matches, and analysis of these needs insight beyond your superficial effort.

I have been a regular visitor to this site and I must admit that 70s Gooner has at least been consistent in his analysis prior to the game of what needed to be changed for this game at the Riverside at least.

honestly, this post is pitiful. sure we played horribly on sunday, possibly the worst ive ever seen under wenger, but to call him pathetic is insulting and graceless.

let's be clear here: calling someone pathetic is not constructive its purely an insult. and the rest of your post is not much better: it's easy to sound cleaver in hindsight, to know what should have been done after the event. but honestly even with that advantage you're struggling.

for example, suggesting playing Rosicky upfront with Adebayor leaves the left wing slot free, who would fill in there? Eduardo? Denilson? neither would have offered any more to the midfield, and lets be honest, your the sort of prick who would now be complaining that we always play Edwardo out of position and that we lost cos we didn't have a propper left winger. Anyway, simply swapping a few players round wont make a difference when the whole teams plays like shite.

put simply there is no analysis whatsoever here, all you've written is a petty rant, that, coming after our FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON shows you up to be a spoilt brat of a fan. That's fine of course, you can be who you want, but please don't write about it, for the rest of us, websites like yours are poison.

This is by far the most outrageous post I've seen to date. If you call Wenger pathetic in any other posts I will start a petition to have your site banned!!! I've done it before!

You need a simple lesson in both manners and respect. Right now you sound as intelligent as Wayne Rooney in a burberry cap.

This IS bad news. Football is a game of confidence, it is lost quickly but takes time to regain. I think there is a very good chance we will continue this run of bad form for a few more games. Not pessimistic, just realistic.

The only way out of this rut is if our injured players come back and quickly.

Adebayor as many claim is NOT arsenal quality but he will be an excellent backup to Brendtner so keep him but not as first choice. He lost the ball 18 times in the Boro match, fact. He also failed to control a glorious ball from his inevitable replacement, Brendtner, that would have made it 2-1 in the 85th minute. How vital that would have been given Rosicky's goal.

He also stupidly stayed offside during a counter-attack involving Rosicky against Newcastle that could have easily made it 2-0. Unbelieveable lack of footballing intelligence. He is top scorer because arsenal are the most creative team in the premiership. Even Darius Vassell would have 7 goals by now given the amount of chances we create.

Eduardo needs time and be played in the right position. I've never heard of a fox in the box Left Winger. He is a clinical finisher and that is all we should ask him to do.

Don't ever play two defensive midfielders and one striker, it just does not work in our current setup. Denilson made an instant difference. Get rid of Gilberto, 3-5 Million for a 31 year old is good business.

To be a noble benign being is to have a make of openness to the world, an cleverness to trusteeship unsure things beyond your own control, that can take you to be shattered in hugely exceptional circumstances for which you were not to blame. That says something uncommonly important thither the prerequisite of the ethical autobiography: that it is based on a trust in the uncertain and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a shop than like a jewel, something kind of fragile, but whose extremely special attraction is inseparable from that fragility.
