Four reasons why Arsenal lost to Manchester City (plus player ratings)

By 1970’s Gooner

1. Heavy legs?

What a pathetic performance by the Arsenal players in the first half. They could not find each other even with short passes, their free kicks and crosses rarely got past the first defender and their heavy legs never allowed them to play in a quick tempo. Cesc Fabregas was particularly guilty.

May be they were affected by the international week that a lot of them were involved in but Manchester City had players on international duty too.

In the second half after probably a good spanking by Wenger in the dressing room but more importantly with the introduction of Rosicky the whole team were rejuvenated.

Fabregas became more efficient and went more forward to give support to van Persie, Rosicky gave added impetus to the attacks and suddenly balls were finding their intended targets.

2. No width

Wenger elected to start with Bendtner and Diaby on the flanks in a 4 3 3 formation. Diaby was abysmal, holding onto the ball when he should have been passing it and when he got round to passing it he could not find his players.

More significantly he often strayed infield thus starving the team of the width on the left hand side that he should have been providing.

Bendtner was also ineffective for most of the time on the other wing. This meant that van Persie got no meaningful crosses or penetrative passes to exploit.

3. Clichy and Diaby go awol

In the first half Diaby helped Clichy deal with the threat of Wright Philips. But in the second both were guilty of leaving that left hand side almost unguarded. Both the vital second and third goals that killed the game off came from that side.

For the second Clichy was dispossessed up the field, Diaby was nowhere to be found and Song had to rush back to cover, unsuccesfuly.

For their third Clichy was tricked by Philips who raced clear to plant the ball on Adebayor’s head.

4. Almunia lets the team down

He was slow in coming out for the high ball against Portsmouth when they scored their goal but it didn’t matter. It mattered today. He was slow to react to Richards’s header and by the time he got to it the ball had hit the post and his back.

Goals change games and this goal gave them belief and had us chasing the game committing players up front in a second half.

Still we got Rosicky back and he looks back to his old best. This is a real bonus as he can add quality and creativeness to the team.

Almunia 5
Clichy 4
Sagna 5
Vermaelen 6
Gallas 6
Song 6
Denilson 5
Fabregas 6
Diaby 4
Bendtner 5
Van Persie 6

Rosicky 7
Eduardo 5
Eboue 5

What about that scum bag.

Almunia 5? generous mate.. he was not even shifting his feet when the first goal was struck.. way too slow//
did diaby play? can't wait for nasri and theo to get back so that diaby can take his place on the bench/

Anonymous said...

I think anyone who looks at the scoreline will say we got bossed, but I don't think so. Clichy was awful, and Diaby... I just don't see what everyone raves about with him. But aside from that, without Arshavin, with a lacking first half performance, we had plenty of chances to win.

It's not over. But the next month is critical if we are to stay on track.

And Adebayor. ManCity fans, he didn't do any of that last year. Enjoy his good 6 months until he goes back to loafing around the pitch.

i think thats abit harsh. it think city got away with it abit. look how many chances we had and didnt take them

Anonymous said...

when was the last time Almunia made a save. he is getting worse.

Chang said...

Diaby should have been on the bench and eduardo should have started on the left.
Against united eboue started on the right.
Wenger's tactics must be quetioned?

Anonymous said...

To say Almunia has gotten worse, means that he must have actually been good at some point. Which everyone knows is not true. Good victory today for city, and for once and honest Gunner fan, so true with your rankings.

Anonymous said...

No mention of the Barry handball or the fact that adebayor should have been sent off for both his challenge on Fabregas and the assault on Van Persie..lets not dismiss the part that luck plays and the fact that we are all too often on the receiving end..

I dont think its 433, its 451.

Anonymous said...

I think we desperately need a better goalkeeper. RD

Sad thing is the team is stuck with abysmal Almunia & Diaby is lazy which is unforgivable at this level of the game. Wenger has made his bed, he must sleep!

Gooner4life&beyond said...

The team isn't good enough, that is the only important reason. Great to see VP and Rosicky on the scoresheet though, especially Rosicky.

I cant believe wenger i splaying bendtner wide right, he was crossing balls into the box when it should be him getting on the end of it.

I think a better front three when fit would be arshavin, van persie & rosicky

The scoreline is just a flattering result, truth be told we created more opportunities than city and were very unlucky,i questioned the substitution of song which evidently left a gap in front of the back 4 and we got punished,i also feel Sagna should have been out start of 2nd half cause heis attacking was awful,by the way we need a quality keeper cause as of today i'm fed up with Almunia,we need Arshavin and Theo back so we could get some pace up front

Anonymous said...

i think its time wenger. most matches we have 70 percent of the play and still the other team scores first. its gettin borig now . something has to be missing. its been going on or to long..we played city of the park and still got beat 4. same at utd. u could go on and on. at 1 each we played all out attack as if we were behind and paid for it..get rid of the dumb ass keeper for starters for fks sake

Anonymous said...

These are the 4 reasons :
1. Wenger Lied to us again..as always.
2. Wenger is still too arrogant to accept that his project need reinforcement.
3. Wenger believe that the board will stick to him whatever the result of this season.
4. Almunia and Diaby are still playin for us.

Anonymous said...

yeah you are right arse no shot on goal in the first half and only had the ball for 46% in the first half.in the word of wenger you didn't see it then

VanDaManPersie said...

ALMUNIA ONCE AGAIN COST US GTHE GAME. HE DOESN'T SEEM TO READ THE GAME WELL.

WENGER HAD A CHANCE TO SIGN SHAY GIVEN LAST SUMMER, BUT DECIDED TO PUT FAITH IN GONKEY KONG ALMUNIA. SHAY GIVEN HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL FOR YEARS AND SEEMS TO THRIVE AND KEEP A SHIT TEAM LIKE MANC CITY IN THE GAME TODAY.

WENGER'S TACTICS SHOULD ALSO BE QUESTIONED. WHY HE STILL DEPLOYS BENDTNER ON THE RIGHT AND WHY HE STARTED DONKEY DIABY ON THE LEFT INSTAED OF EDUARDO. WHY DID HE NOT BUY A DM WE BEEN CRY ABOUT FOR YEARS, AS DENILSON SHOWED TODAY, THAT HE IS NOT THE ANSWER TO OUR DEFENSIVE PROBLEMS.

WHY IS WENGER STILL PLAYING VAN PERSIE AS A LONE STRIKER, EVEN THOUGH HE DOESN'T LIKE IT THERE AND IT IS NOT BENEFITING HIM. HE DID THE SAME WITH ADEBAYOR LAST SEASON AND THE TWO PLAYERS PLAY BETTER WITH SUPPORT FROM ANOTHER STRIKER AROUND THEM. VAN PERSIE IS A SECOND STRIKER AND NOT A LONE ONE

geery Brown said...

Whilst the team have had bad luck against both Manchester sides that is not why they lost. Poor defending, lack of concentration cost them once again. This looked more like the games at the end of last season- and I really think Wenger has completely lost it. These players are not good enough period. Defensively, we are rubbish-City scoring 4 against us is unacceptable.
We need to face up to what needs to be done sooner rather than later-a takeover with serious investment in new players. A complete rebuild throughout the club.

Anonymous said...

@ Greeny Bown.

Defensively we are good. Almunia is the problem. His awareness of the game is poor. He seems to be in his own world lately. Clichy maybe needs to be dropped for Gibbs because he had an awful game today. Richards and W.phillips destroyed his life today!!

Anonymous said...

Too many individual errors. Far, far too many. You cant get away with it at this level.

For all our beautiful attacking play. One clean sheet in six games speaks for itself.

Erichero said...

I really am amazed that no one is talking about Adebayor stamping Van Persie's head. Really, I'm stunned - did no one see the game? Or was everyone live at the stadium and no one saw the replays we saw on TV? Adebayor was bog average up to that point, had a certain red, and then started to play, including the goal that prevented us getting a draw.

This game was rough on us again, and of the blogs, only Goonerblog has called this correctly so far. Rosicky certainly was a big plus.

Gooner4life&beyond said...

Shit, look how Man U have done over Tottenham.

Anonymous said...

i dont know how diaby always gets a start whenever he is fit.He can be injured for 3 months come back and start straight away plus on important matches. Other players wenger will say 'not match fit or lacking match practice' but he is an exception. And he is a below average player.

And those trying to prove how denilson's stats are perfect should see how after rosicky replaced him we were MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Stats sometimes means f*ck all.

Lets face it denilson, diaby, eboue, almunia are not good enough yet wenger plays them the most. How can wenger accept such mediocre players after we had the 2004 invincible team!

And slow-reflexes-almunia deserved a 1.5.

It's sad that wenger put his players' well being and trying to prove his experiment before ARSENAL's result.

Anonymous said...

Akmunia is the worst keeper in the League!
Not buying a world class keeper and striker has made this another season of chasing 4th spot!!!

hahahahah.. mcfc champions at last.. hahaha.. good joke. you know you lot live under manutd's shadows

it really frustrated, its hard 2 believe. why is it when some player got better, there must been someone that getting worse? i always think almunia is our weakest link and it always proven in crucial time. i'm so fed up of this shit....and i'm really mad when seeing manu fans just keep joying, and in the end i'm always get the shit out of my team. ARGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!Long Live GUNNERS!!!

Anonymous said...

I think AW better know his project and investment in youth will take time and may not work.
For starters none of the the top teams have a goalie of Alumunia's class. The top teams play direct and go for thr win.
Their counter attack is fast and they make sure the opposition is lacking in numbers. Although they maybe gungho, they make sure the defence does the job.
I'm afraid AW has failed defensively and the next few matches will tell where Arsenal from here.
Although the red faced cunt is gung ho, he is pragmatic. He doesn't fill team with ballerinas.
He doesn't complain of anti soccer. He knows to win matches you have to be physical.
That is the difference between the Arsenal boss and the red faced/nosed cunt

Unknown said...

diaby? 100% agreed with u. over rated player of all time. why cant we just dispose him.

Anonymous said...

The defence was disappointing but I am happy with the team's second half performance.

We would have drawn the match had we had some luck.

Eduardo was banned for diving remembr? I am waiting to hear what will happen to Adebayor for kicking RVP ( intentionally).

I don't care about the celebration but I want to hear what The FA, Uefa, Fifa or even the media have got to say about Adebayor's kick and City dirty antics.

Anonymous said...

I think Arsene Wenger is getting his team selection all wrong. Eduardo is banned for CL, why wasnt he played up front? Bendtner was absolutely ineffective on the wing. I think, Nacer Barazite should be given a run-in on the wing as long as Theo is not back. Eduardo should have started, he could have made a lot of difference today.

Honestly !!!!

You need a reality check boys and girls ..... The Arse are sadly lacking. You have travelled to Manchester twice and been found wanting. It's OK bossing games but the team that scores the most goals wins the game and as such can generally be considered to have been the better team.
As for Adebayor ..... I'm really glad you all played your part in driving him out of the club ..... you really won't replace his goals with those that played for you today. You should also be pleased that the big fella meant enough to you that you actually made a little noise today .... a bit insulting perhaps but you showed your class when the man you all wrote off rammed it down your throats.

Anonymous said...

The team is not good enough. Our forward line, with the exception of Arsharvin lacks pace and ability. Fact! Theo is quick but cannot use his pace with the ball and lacks strength. Bendtner would not make on the bench of the other top 6 teams, and RVP is not a lead striker. Our midflied lacks balance and pace. Only Song has any strength and can tackle but is not deployed as an out and out DM. Fabregas plays too deep to support the forwards, Denilson can't tackle and is slow. Diaby is a CM not a winger and his few CM games proves this. Defensivley we are ok except Almunia - I think all has been said about him! Clichy - don't hang him for one bad game - he is normally very reliable and SWP and M Richards are very good players!! We need a Viera / Gerrard type in midfield and a new forward line (keep Asharvin) with pace. Wenger's tactics are shite! It is about Wenger and his failing project. He is not being honest with the fans and the club. It is not about buying big names, it is about getting players with the correct attributes and he does not seem to be getting the basics which were once his priority - pace, strength and technique. He then moulded that into a team but this team does not have the basics!!! Arsene needs to get back to his basics or get out! Finishing fourth again - just to fail in the champions league - we may as well finish 12 for all value this brings to the fans! Arsene - remember the fans!

Anonymous said...

what's the use of wenger playing bendner on the wings when he is the only striker left, who can play as a target man after we sold Adebayor.Wenger is losing it big time, time and again Diaby goes AWOL in big matches, but he continues to use him, he can not keep possession, can not keep position.Almunia is not being challenged by any one for his position this is why he is letting the team down like this. When we had all the money and time we could not even afford the most average of all players. This season will be a nightmare season for mr wenger because if we lose one more game, he will be booed until he packs his bags, then people will realise that Adebayor was right when he said "the team has gone back wards".

Anonymous said...

Diaby is not a bad player at all. Against man u he was excellent ( apart from the goal ) if u stick him in centre mid, he is a really good player. Because he is being played out of position, does not mean he is crap! Now, bendtner on the other hand is crap! Crap up front, mid, anywhere!

Anonymous said...

please diaby is crap wherever you play him. even when he's in the middle he'll try his best to hold on to the ball for toooo damn long in dangerous positions, try his fancy nutmeg skills and tricks(always fails) and give the opposition the ball. and he is not on the same wavelength as world class players such as fabregas/arshavin/rosicky, he just struggles with their quick one touch football.

Anonymous said...

Sorry I don't agree at all. Why has all this slagging of diaby just since the man u game? He was not good today because he was playing out of position. Shame because I think he will be the new hate target for some gunner fans and it's a shame because before the man u game he was playng good for us.

Anonymous said...

lets face it it all you gonners, you got well ant truly spanked!!! good job tevez and robbie wearnt playing, cant imagine how many more goals we'd a scored, are well, such is life. o thanks for ady and kolo happy days.

Anonymous said...

I'm glad ady has gone. He was a lazy player with an attidude. Man city will see this in a couple of months.

gazzap said...

I dont trust Diaby, neither do I trust Almunia and though Eboue has had a decent start to the season, I dont trust him either. They make big mistakes. big mistakes cost games, and eventually titles.

We need to replace these players. The left hand side was very weak today.

Anonymous said...

anon @ 9:40, you lot didnt really spanked us, you had 5 shots on target and scored 4. And unfortunately have a world class keeper saving your team yet again compared to almunia the clown. every goal seems to go for you. We had 7 with one hitting a bar and one handball from barry not given. Plus 3 of your goals are counter attacking ones. not eexactly spanking to me.

sounds like sour grapes.

Danish Gooner said...

They lack the fundamental ability to win important games, when you can dominate at Old toilet and at city of scumchester and still fail to pick up a SINGLE point something is seriously wrong,it has been wrong for so long that it is now inherent in this team when has been starring down the barrel of the gun for so many yers and done nothing about and now someone has pulled the trigger. And if i hear one more Arsene knows fan defend him i am gonna go
ballistic,he has lost the plot it is as simple as that......period.

Luchang said...

Lehmann made a mistake and was downgraded to be a substitute... Almunia has been making mistakes and mistakes and yet not taken out. We fans are extremely distressed that he is our first choice goal-keeper. And having denilson-diably-song-fabregas is a big NO NO! There is no speed and dribblers. The 4-3-3 is supposed to be like Barcelona, but their 433 has width and lots of speed and dribbling... Without that, its too easy to defend us.
Alumia - 0 (he didnt do a single thing right)
Clichy - 1 (let's put him on the bench to make him learn that his mistakes were costly)
Bendthner - 2.5 he is useless at the flanks...

Luchang said...

The 4 reasons why Arsenal lost:

1) 4 central mid-fielders without real width and speed - thats a Strategic error from Le Boss
2) No Arshavin ... (or no eduardo, nasri, walcott or rosicky from the start).
3) Folly and mistakes of Clichy (mistake-prone, so much that he won't be the 1st choice left-back for France for sure), Sagna (can't cross a single decent ball!), Almunia (slow and unreliable), Song (he let a Richards, a defender, moved past him one-on-one..., other than that, he was doing well, but that mistake was the turning point), Bendthner (just not performing, no goals till now?)
4) No Luck

I think we have to put up a formation like this:

Mannone (train him, he's Italian!)
Eboue (can cross a ball and attack better - thats a requirement nowadays)
Vermelen
Gallas
Gibbs (gotto put Clichy out a while as a punishment for screwing up - u have to reward and punish at times)
1 from Diaby/ Song (Denilson is too average - ok for lousier teams though)
Fabregas (he played terribly too, and was not pulling the team up as a captain....)
2 from Arshavin/ Rosicky / Walcott/ Nasri
Persie and Eduardo is a Good Combi!

The qualities that were most attractive about Wenger’s team in their all-conquering era – youth, fluidity, intelligence, pace and confidence in possession – have effectively taken over the team.

And the other qualities that side shared with many great teams – physical power, the ability to close down opponents in midfield, competitive spirit, experience of big games, a certain ruthless selfishness in front of goal, and competent defensive organization – have all been crowded out.

Anonymous said...

the real question is at 1-1 why we chasin the game like were 1-0 down, were the away side, the pressure is on city to come forward,so why not sit back an pick them off, brainless clueless team and management, always throwin caution to the wind

Anonymous said...

Arsenal had ten shots and two goals. Man C had six shots and four goals. Alas this is a familiar theme. It had happened in the past and again yesterday.
Arsenal must finish off teams after outplaying them. Mind you the defence again went awol.
Teams know how to counter the gunners and it's no use saying they play anti soccer.
They play to win no matter what . Ugly or beautiful? You decide,Arsene.

Anonymous said...

1. Wenger's tactics

Wenger expected a much more open expansive Man City, but what we got was a megson-esque Man City, employing the long ball as their primary means of attack. Hate to admit it, but Adebayor was exemplory in the target man role.

We were out-tackled and out-battled for the second game running, and our lack of intensity was the main reason for our poor performance, like much of last season. Whether we were tired, under-prepared, or simply not up for it, you can't win the Premier League without fighting.

rezaul said...

Arsenal should knock out three players:
1.Diaby
2.Eboue
3.Bendt

Luchang said...

Hi Lady Arsenal,

Van Persie was one of the guys who played well and committed in the game! He is just not a rough and tough player like Drogba and Rooney.

But I really hope he is (play like Drogba and Rooney) cos this will improve his play.

Despite the loss, lets get behind them :-) Go Gunners!!! Buck up and Be Counted!!! Go for Wins! Don't be so conservative (cowardly) anymore. Play offensive with more attacking players, not the foursome of Fab, Diaby, Denilson and Song. That is Ugly Football. Pls play Eduardo, Rosicky etc. Go Gunners, Go AW! Go Rosicky!!!

I think everybody done well except almunia.he caused the whole team to panic all the time.useless than a tree.I suggest we plant a tree in the middle of the goal post and it'll do better.we were troubled only for a couple of times and there they got their goal.we should try a new keeper.

Another stupid and mindless rant; can't anyone take a lost. We cannot be winning all 38 games. You kids should grow up.
Anyway, besides this and that contributing factors for the lost, has anyone examine the ref's role. He is clearly the inefficient one. He was only a few feet away from RVP when he got stamped andn he did not SEE, rediculous. A kcik at Sagna was also misseed. and Hand ball. He should also has to answer for the lost as was the other ref at the MU game. CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!!

You can place the blame on the players for their abysmal performances or Wenger's tactics, but the truth is, we just do not have the enough quality players or consistency to mount a challenge for the top 4 unless Wenger starts buying someone January. Yes Man city maybe a good team because of Arab's cash, but they are a better team nonetheless. I think Song paid a great effort though, but Diaby, Cesc, Bendtner were simply horrendous, not to mention Almunia. I've watched the game and they deserved to be beaten.

Anonymous said...

Wenger has been a great manager but at the moment he is blinded by loyalty to players he has brought to the club that are simply not good enough. Almunia at his best can be compared to a former keeper of ours John Lukic he is no David Seaman. We need a keeper like David Seaman to win anything in the future. Diaby has had time to prove himself and has come up short on consistancy he needs to step aside for now for someone with drive like Wiltshire from teh reserves or Merida. Song and Denilson I think will come through to be very good but for now we do need someone experienced in the central midfield holding area. Up front we miss someone with pace who will strike fear into our opponents. Currently we do not have that. We play some very pretty football that everyone loves, however being pretty does not win you anything. Our best football under Wenger was our sprint relay team. I think the football was more exciting and better than we have today. If we are to suceed the team needs players who can play that way. We cannot buy now until January, and I do not think that we will then. I can only say that we get behind the team which will win games but do not expect any silverware this season.

carlos said...

I think today, the manager has to take the blame for the result. Anytime he plays Diaby on the left he is very ineffective, yet he still plays him there. The substitutions should have been made earlier and eduardo should have started. I was watching the game live and i still cannot believe how arsenal lost this game. We played them off the park especially second half but Almunia is soo useless. How can a keeper who has not got a call from his national team be our number one? he gives these defenders no confidence at all. Also i think Clichy should be dropped. In recent times, anytime he loses concentration, we lose the game and he did that twice yesterday.adebayor should have had a red card because as soon as he had that incident with VP i knew it was intentional cos at that time he had hardly had a touch of the ball. I think if adebayor was an arsenal player and had stamped on VP the red card would have been shown asap cos the ref was not far away from the scene....this confirms what wenger said, being dirty depends on which side of the fence you are on....On the positive side, all two games we have lost , we totally dominated it.In time we will get better and with a little bit of lady luck , we may win something this year.

wow u people are selfish tools! clichy wasnt all back becoz he worked out sumthing pretty OBVIOUS we were 1-1 nt 2-1 up so we needa anthor goal so we need more support up that left wing!and then u go and blame Alumnia just becoz u want someone to blame! i saw the game and that header wasnt as easy to judge as it looked! if that ball had come off the bar and hit rosicky in the face and gone in as a total accident u would've said that unlucky, but the same happened to alumnia come on it was just plain unlucky..i'm a huge fabregas fun but for me he didnt do enough..

The game was lost by Arsene Wenger..in the transfer market. While others are piling up their teams with experienced players, He stubbornly refused to reinforce with great players - EVEN WHEN MONEY IS AVAILABLE, unlike his excuse in the past. STUBBORNLY have faith is his players like diaby, denilson, eboue, (why senderos still around is a mystery to me), and of course, the england-wannabe shitty almunia, which to me is a nut. There is no top class keeper to challenge his position. Wenger's selection is shit once again. Like why arshavin was left out last season against chelsea, why was eduardo not started, but diaby?? One good performance, and wenger keep praising diaby as a Viera-wannabe when he cant even perform consistently. Why was Bendtner on the flank - when his height should be an advantage against their centrebacks in the middle????? WENGER LOST THE GAME FOR ARSENAL. DONT BLAME INTERNATIONAL GAMES, OTHER TEAMS FACED THAT PROBLEM TOO.

Anonymous said...

about ADEBAYOR, he is a monster raised up by wenger who still fancy being nice and polite to after being screwed time and again last season. Wenger, for once you are a nut.

Wenger dropped Lehman and penalised him for being outspoken, but Almunia can make all the mistakes he want and Wenger will NEVER drop him.

bit dissappointed with RVPs comments about Adebayors deliberate stamp. He deliberately tried to take Adebayor out from behind (cowardly act) and paid for his transgression when he missed him.No doubt he will get away scott free and Ade will get three matches.A few of you guys are saying that City were lucky. I would say that if you let four goals in, and get ripped apart in the process, then you dont deserve anything from the game.

Arsene Wenger got it all wrong again like he has been all this few years.why play V. persie from the middle in the 4-3-3 formation, when we had the ineffective N. Bendtner, Eduardo (suspended for C.L.) to form a potent front three on the day (edurdo-bendtner-v.persie) instead he did the damage by playing bendtner from the right, diaby from the left and wasting the deadly v. persie in the middle where he wouldn't be opportuned to cut in from the right to release mayhem on shay Given. if the front three had been OK, there wouldn't have been much pressure on the midf'd and defence to perfom. le prof better wake up or face the axe when the board get tired of his unfruitful experiments.

If you know football you will be fully aware of the fact that we do NOT play 4-3-3.

its 4-5-1 and it is an entire different formation!!

calling it 4-3-3 is Wenger like propaganda, a way of spinning our defensive oriented formation into something it is not!!!

Dont let Wenger fool you for another 5 years pls....

As for the Ade incident...all i can say is that we'll support our own whether that be right or wrong, its what you do and what YOU quite rightly did wiyh Eduardo who was disgustingly put out to dry by UEFA/FIFA (spit!).

Almunia has been carried by this Arsenal squad for far too long now. He was to blame for the goal against Portsmouth, the 2 goals against Man Utd and now another below par performance yesterday against Man City! What does this guy do to warrant a place? What does GOD (Wenger) see in him? Almunia will cost Arsenal any chance of silverware this season it’s not a feeling or instinct it’s a fact! Look at last season's defeats and count how many times we lost matches through goal keeping errors! It’s not acceptable any more! He is inexcusable!

Biscuit said...

Good summary. We will pay this season for Wenger's arrogance (eg trying to "save" £2-3m by underbidding for Chamakh). Aluminia is crap and will cost us half a dozen games this year. Diaby is a twat; he has many skills but more weaknesses: most notably arrogance which sees him constantly trying beyond his skills, with the hero pass or dribbling past 3 men. RVP is wet, he has been spared the criticism he deserves because he is a nice bloke and has silky skills, but he is just not ruthless enought (compare to Torres, Drogba, Rooney - different league). All our great players are competing for the same position. The team is unbalanced and will struggle to be in the top 6.

The key reason you lost was that City scored more goals! Simple as. What is distasteful is the way you are all venting hatred to almunia. He won't get better by being hated. Arse fans seem to be developing a pattern of getting the worst out of those players who have room for improvement and then getting upset when leave an at better. Adebayor was out of order but his actions are purely in direct response to your behaviour.

It really was an aweful match.. i dont want to say we were unlucky not to have scored from all those chances we had in the last 10 mins.. some were really unlucky.. but it again shows how much we really need a clinical finisher.. we really got bossed around ..

almunia doesnt really seem to be good enough.. but dont think wenger would do anything about it.. and the backup fabianski seems to be like an accident waiting to happen..

one positive in the game was the return of rosicky.. looks like he can be important this season if he stay fit..

denilson has been aweful in the last 2 games.. and it looks like he could lose his place to nasri or rosicky very soon..

diaby is not good enough to start.. when eduardo replaced song.. i thought diaby was supposed to be playing the holding role.. but he was no where close to that position in any occasion.. he looks like he can make an impact but not a consistent impact.. he can be a super sub.. if he tries harder ..

van persie.. doesnt really fit the central striker mould.. atleast not in his positioning or in his thinking.. it maybe only a matter of time before the position is held by bendtner and eduardo.. and van persie could move to the wings where he could be more effective..

the scary thing is .. city were without 2 key players.. and the impact they could make is a really really scary thought.. and we were without several key players as well.. we know already what impact arshavin can make.. it remains to be seen how nasri and walcott will be used in this new formation..

You boys are a top quality side. Unfortunately, you can be a right bunch of pussies too. City were not dirty, they were strong and in your face, with the ability and finesse to exploit you at speed going the other way.

You actually were much more in control against Utd, but at 2-1 down (which you never should have been) you started throwing people forward and got picked off time after time and could have easily lost 4-1.

Yesterday, your possession lead you to feel far to confident, and as a result, you again got picked off time after time. Crying about how dirty city were and how many 'chances' you had and you have such terrible luck, is just bollocks. The fact is, you have no shape. The reason you have so many options when attacking is because a good 8 of your players feel they can join in. If you lose the ball and the other team know what they're doing... well, you're f**ked.

By the way, i do not agree with what Ade did yesterday, but RvP can fuck off with the innocent victim act... he new what he was trying to do.

if anyone was watching the match, you would all of seen that van persie had lunged two footed at adebayor and he jumped out of the way, resulting in the stamp, why is he not getting all this negative press for obvious intent to injure adebayor. Adebayor was kicked all over the place by his ex-teamates, and the ref turned a blind eye to most of it - (being fouled in the air, clattering to the ground and the ref gave a arsenal free kick?) one-sided media are at it again finding anything they can to have a go at city for. His celebration? what about van persies were he ran into the corner of city fans swearing and spitting at them all?
quite poor from arsenal yesterday, they can give all the abuse they want to Adebayor, but got it forced back down their throats yesterday.

same old arsenal, always cheating.

Wenger was the true cause for our loss against Man City. Wenger has done many great things for the club, but for the perfomance against Man City, Wenger should be held accountable, far more than the players playing should be.

Wenger's decision not to buy a goal keeper in the transfer period ensures that Almunia can continue making silly mistakes and continue to keep his place within the side. Almunia's performance against Man City was terrible to say the least, but his poor performance is a product of Wenger not buying a keeper to challenge Almunia to play better to keep his position.

Why did wenger play Diaby and bendtner over rosicky and eduardo? Its seemed a conservative tactic, which ultimately caused Arsenal to lose again to a team from Manchester.

Bendtner had a terrible game in a non-preferred position and was still given 90minutes.

Once the team has width and personell that can actually provide decent passes and crosses, arsenal will come good again.

Wenger has been unlucky with injuries, but as manager of arsenal he made far too many mistakes in fielding too many players in non-preferred positions, which resulted in our loss against Man City.

Your thoughts?

RVP celebrates his goal by screaming F Off at the CIty fans, his tackles are thuggish you sing ade's mother is a wh@re and you throw bananas on the pitch and you have the neck to whinge like babies!! Racist scum bags and I hope cIty complain and insist on you and your players having the book thrown at them. You should have a ten point deduction for racism.

1. I think Arsenal squad yesterday was shit cuz Eduardo and Rosicky should be in the first team instead of Bendtner and Diaby, they are not first team players .
2. Almunia was shit aswell cuz i think the first goal he had chances to grab the ball, he was too confident that he would grab the ball and then the ball effect suprised him .
3. About Adebayor he is just a great player but like many players he has a very poor mind .

Anonymous said...

What planet are you fellow gooners on. Slagging Almunia and Diaby off. Shame on you. Almunia couldnt have done anything with the goals. They were all well taken so leave him along he is a quality quality keeeper. Diaby is a far better player than Nasri - who is too lightweight. You make me sick by calling our players where were you when Almunia was brilliant in the CL. Fickle Fickle Fickle.

never loose the faith well get better once the players beleive in them selves

The person who said Diaby is better than Nasri is crazy. Nasri ran games last year when Cesc was out. Diaby can't do that.

I think 2 big reasons that causes we lost are the first AW gave the wrong tactics to play ( he is not respected Man city enough so his tactic is easily to play in double zones defense is protect the stupid Arsenal passing game and Abu that he always prefers is not working to play along theFab4 that everyone know except AW like this condition ,I always insist to sell him out is good for him and team ( no syncronized and harmony effective play with Fab4 and the pitch just like play 10 men.)) . And the huge second is how polite and gentleman mankind , AW does in the Adebaryor situation to Man city that's not only the Business you did and success in money but Ade' thinking is wrong so AW shouldn't talk it 's just the play's way to go. The royalty to the club is the first degree should be concern and the fanclub no mention how high he recieve . But bad attitude bring to mention how high wage he recieve. In the finally, I'm not sure and trust in AW because he 's betrayed the trust by lead the team to lose in the stupid tictic.

I've seen a lot of Arsenal fans on here complaining about Wenger's tactics and calling for his head, and I'm not going to lie, I'm one of the fans that would ordinarily be agreeing with them, as I did for much of last season, but to sack him because of the team's performances so far this season would be ridiculous. If you rewind to the first day of the season the same people demanding Wenger's dismissal now were probably the same people writing in hailing him as the new messiah. Like I say, my opinion on the man is quite often fickle but I only wanted to see him sacked when we were in 5th place and 10 points behind Villa, and it looked like a real possibility that we wouldn't get into the Champions League, but to want him sacked after only four out of 38 games is just plain stupid.

Also there's a lot of gloom mungers saying how our title challenge is basically over after these two losses. Once again, these fans need reminding that its only four games into the season and we're not the only top four team to lose or even lose twice. Liverpool lost two arguably easier games then we did (Tottenham Away and Villa at Home compared to Man United and City away), and although Chelsea are still unbeaten they haven't faced anyone of note yet. Furthermore, although it would have been nice to get something from one of these 'big' games, in reality going away to the League Champions and away to the League's biggest spenders was never going to be any easy task, and although we lost both game I believe we put in very good performances, we were just unlucky. I mean an own goal in both games, a penalty and yesterday we dominated on possession and were unlucky not to draw it from 4-1 down.

In summary the season is 38 games long, and so far we've only played four of them, three of which have been away to top-quality teams. If we can just carry on winning against the teams lower down the table, which is something we failed to do last season, then beat the big teams when they come to the Emirates than there is absolutely no why we won't be Champions come May.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. So well done on your good run of form Manu. Speaking of runs...if you put half as much energy into your movement for the Gunners as you did for the goal celebration perhaps you'd still be playing for the Gunners.

Also, you're not really suppose to celebrate with the Arsenal fans anymore but at least the run and slide on your knees was an improvement on that bloody dancing you subjected us to...it's unfortunate that the Arsenal fans didn't just laugh at you (although I can understand the frustration they vented with bread rolls and a stewards chair)...pity Cesc didnt have any pizza handy.

As for the game itself, well Adebayor shouldn't have been on the pitch to score (cards for the Cesc tackle and Van Persie attack) would have ensured his early removal. Barry's handball should have been a penalty and prevented the build-up to City's last goal. So if you chalk off two city goals and add one for the Arsenal penalty (assuming we scored it) and the scoreline would have been a little different. Alas this didnt materialise but I wouldn't be ready just yet to proclaim City as big four...nor would I be in any hurry to consider Arsenal as also-rans...we keep playing like that and we won't lose many more games.

Here we go again… the worst team ever the worst season ever.
Sorry Tony for going off topic but I allow myself the freedom to reply to Barry.
I do the match reporting for the Arsenal Benelux fans over here. I watch every gam live (on sportschannel of internet) and I write my report on the moment. This means that mostly within 3 or 4 minutes after the final whisle my match report is online for the fans in our country who couldn’t see it live. Yesterday the game was live on the sportschannel in Belgium.
Yesterday I wrote after 45 minutes: the worst 45 minutes from Arsenal this season. No cohesion, no grit no determination. I think no one will say I was wrong ? (Tell me if you think so).
Because I had a dinner at 6 my wife dragged me from the TV a minute before RVP equalised. My last words written on the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half was: At first the Arsenal played flat but after some 5 minutes and certainly with Rosicky joining in began to get under steam.
So a friend of mine informed by text messages of the outcome of the game. Must say it took me a while before the food tasted good yesterday.
When I came home I put myself in front of the TV and started the digital recording of the game and forced myself to have a look and to complete my report.
So my final conclusion: Adebayro should have been sent of for the RVP incident, should have had a yellow after some 1O minutes for a very nasty challenge on Cesc (was a possible bone chrusher). And on the result: we could have won it if we would have finished like City.
Now my friends ove here in Belgium can testifie on this : I watch the game as a fan but try to write as neutral as possible. When Eduardo dived I wrote it like it was. When we get an offside goal, I write it as it was.
So yesterday after the game I felt down and sad but the “reporter” in me said: this game could have gone eather way.
And if you dont believe me, believe the Arsenal-haters of MOTD who told it also in that sense. Normally they do the conga when we lose a game but they where quite neutral at this game.
So this is not the worst team ever, the worst season ever so far. Just get back behind the boys and maybe like next year the City defeat could be a turning point.

song and eboue were not the culprit. we have 15 minute of madness were everything come apart from a match we were in control (nice to see rosicky back so).
i m worried of the performance of important first team like clichy sagna cesc almunia and denilson yesterday.dont even talk about diaby

clichy was bad and his performance for a while now are going downhill (chance to give gibbs his chance) cecs was giving pass to eveyone include man city players , diaby was again average slowing us down, denilson well until sub come i forget he was here,Given show us what a 7 million top class keeper can do, looking danemark playing stop playing bentdner on the wing and give him central place, and like clichy drop sagna for eboue.
but at the end even with this negative we dont deserve to loose yesterday but for positive we can look for some more easy match to come and comeback up the leaderboard

and finally for ade well he is classless and should get ban for the VP attack as well some of the away supporter who chant racist chant ;if this is true as racism is not allowed in modern i hope some head come down in shame i was expecting more class from the away fan

10 reasons why arsenal lost to man city:
1.arsen wenger selling key players"like he always doo"

2.almunia bad goalkeeping

3.fuck diaby and song

4.no arshavin and nasri and walcott

5.benthner don't know what to do "attack or defend"

6.man city "f***ing city" taking advantage of defending mistakes

7.absence of fabregas

8.arsen wenger not buying any new players

9.the attacking of clichy and sagna left a lack in the defence

10.very bad luck "gareth barrey hand ball and 1st goal of man city"

In reply to the gloomers:

My belief is also long long overdue…if you let me choose any particular 10 year period in club’s history, it is Wenger’s ten years.

Are we that bad?

Anti-Wenger really believe in themselves to be intelligent fans who look down in their fellow supporters…while I like Wenger’s tactics and doings less lately, I still believe we re a unique club which don’t and will never follow anything or anyone.

We played ugly to win in a time of beautiful-craving era led by Ajax…we played beautifully in a time of only-winning matters…

Have we become a club in which we need to win to justify everything? And with all the talks about failure, A LOT of people forgot that in this so called bad time we reached a CL final, reached a mickey mouse cup with kids, and came mighty close to win the league before injuries led by Eduardo ruined everything?

No, this is not an excuse to love Wenger, it’s just that I see potential there, a potential to win it our own way that drives me to believe….what if we spend 100 mil on 5 players and not win? And win? Are we like Chelski and the new richy rich? Do u want to us to be?

You tell us to see the past 4 years….why don’t you look at 10 years then? Why don’t u look at how we lost in CL final that we all suffered together? Whose fault is that? We’ve become what we are by making profits on players, winning trophies more than any other team but man u on the way? We re a failing club only if you want us to be…

Go ahead ask for Wenger’s head if you gave a gut…but I believe no one will. Hiddink?? Wow, no thanks.

And Tony is right, why do we have to justify ourseleves,

I saw many of our own fans calling our players names, what did they ever do to you? They might not be what you want but we didn’t buy them with a high price tag…and they’re still very young…

Wenger has many flaws recently, tactically i’d like him to be more opened with his selection…and he could save himself alot of headaches with a couple more players..

But I don’t WAIT for MY team to lose and then come out…fine but don’t celebrate when be got it right and we win then.

This week’s focus should be on how we lost and that scum…I don’t see alot of you depressers single him out like you did with wenger and players…and why the Hell is that???

That bitch did to us much much worse…he showed us all a finger and criminally tried to hurt our best players…but no, Wenger is a bigger cunt to you.

Sometimes, I wish you would look at yourselves of how you treated your own team, manager, and own fans…we all love to win, but we don’t wait for failure just to come out and have a few cracks at the man…

If we don’t win I know ill see you again but when we do win something whenever it may come, where will u be then?

We have rights to support and believe…

How many outstanding and quality player have Wenger let go and he did not replace them, tghrough his arrogance and selfishness! Cole, Sol, Pires, Berkhamp, Henry, Viera, Giberto, Lijunberg, Kanu, Toure, Ade, Flamini, Hleb (these were the fundament and key players) and the were never replaced by the same or atleast close quality! This project of Wenger is a total flop and it has no positive results! The idea for younger players is not wrong but they should be players that have the right incredients, e.g. pace, strength, and the mind, focus and the will to achieve and conguer the football world! Bendtner, RVP, Denilson, Diaby, Silvestre, Wallcott, Song, Eboue will never be rated the same at other Top 5 teams somewhere else in major leaques but at Arsenal, they are in the 1st team line up!

Wenger must be reminde of the major objective in soccer, which is to wis silverwares, the board should also be educated on matters concerning salaries of good players, coz the team do not want to spend on purchasing quality players and at the same time, it do not want to pay the players!

A good coach is now going really bda and thats Wenger and his bord.
