Time to twig the formation Mr Wenger

By 1970’s Gooner

What a dreadful defensive performance against a very poor relegation threatened Blackburn side. In the end my mocking friends labeled this game as a six pointer…

Koscienly had a shocker and so did Djourou when he came on and so did the linesman allowing an offside goal to stand.

But all these are excuses really aren’t they. What transpired was that irrespective of what defensive stand you adopt in dead ball situations it’s the players that are defending that have to do their job.

Arsenal switched to zonal defending this season in an attempt to stop conceding from dead ball situations. Forget it Mr Wenger. It’s the players that were on the pitch that couldn’t defend.

Arteta started well again but faded in the second half (again). He could neither offer protection in defence nor create much (Ramsey tried to do that).

If Frimpong had been there then it would have been a different story today. I am convinced we would have walked away with the three points.

It’s time to consider starting with two defensive midfielders in front of the defence, Song and Frimpong say, instead of having two creative midfielders (Arteta and Ramsey today) and only Song sitting back.

The formation could change to a 4 2 3 1

In this way the new central defensive partnership is given more protection at a moment when it badly needs it. And there will still be enough creative players on the pitch to inflict the necessary damage on the other goal.

You've made your point anon!

but he's right, Wenger will lose his job before he changes anything. Too stubborn for change.

I thought we were undone badly down the wings (as usual). Look at the ORIGIN of the blackburn goals ie where normal play suddenly becomes a danger/threat on our goal. Every time down the wing.
Our current formation leaves the full backs exposed time and again. Our wide forward players cant give much protection. They did against Dortmund (and we defended well). Now it seems we can either attack well or defend well (depending on what mode the wide players are in) but never both. they cant be in both places. Its a fault with the 4-3-3 and cannot be rectified - Barcelona often concede similar goals. You need a proper flat 4 so the wingers protect the full backs and then we can get back to proper football again but I dont expect wenger to notice.

Why is it Arsenal cannot hang on to two/three and four goal leads? How is it teams like MC/Chelsea/MU/and others can even come back to win despite being a goal or two down? Why must these things happen to Arsenal?
One word sums it all up:Manager.
As long as Wenger is in charge,Arsenal will never repeat never win the epl.It can only be done if there is a radical change in his philosophy. His mantra of all out attack has cost Arsenal dearly not only yesterday but in past seasons.
His team is full of offensive minded and not enough defence minded players. If you look at the top teams they have a mix of these type of players plus experience and youth.Wenger chose to put all his eggs in his basket and that is why Arsenal are suffering.
This sort of thing can't go on and I firmly believe if there is no change in the fortunes of the club,he will have to pay the price.
This is indeed unfortunate. He only has to swallow his ego and implement a number of changers to get the gunners firing again otherwise he could be out by Xmas if results don't improve.

If you look at how other teams play and score goals,Arsenal are different. They play the ass and pass and even in the penalty area of opponents indulge in tip tap passing Is it any wonder they ind it to scoe and win?
