Wolves: Why the hell did you sack Mick McCarthy Mr Morgan?

By 1970’s Gooner

I am first and foremost an Arsenal supporter but I am also very dedicated Wolves fan due to family connections. I always watch the Wolves games if they are not on at the same time as Arsenal’s.

I was very surprised when Mick McCarthy was sacked. He did after all get the team up into the Premier League and kept them there year after year. So you would expect that he would have been given the chance to guide the team in the remaining 13 games or so.

But no Mr Morgan had to take action….My arse what action he took. He sacked a tried and tested manager and replaced him with a rookie assistant coach. A coach who after all is carrying on where Mick McCarthy left.

If Mr Morgan wanted to shake things up then the last thing he should have done is replace him with his assistant!

He should have at least employed an experienced Premier League manager who would have given the team new ideas and an impetus to play for survival.

Now we are shipping fives and sixes and are going down like a sinking ship.

I always thought this was one of the most stupid moves ever. The team clearly likes Mick and fought hard for him........then when they are in trouble they get rid of him and don't really replace him and give the job to an assistant which pretty much would play the same sort of way as the manager he assisted but with a heck of a lot less experience. That is beyond dumb any chance they had has evaporated and hate to say it but i cant see them staying up.

funny, i too, a gooner, really liked what mick was doing there and the way that he could inspire a team to great results despite not looking good on paper. i'm sure the administration could give some stupid explanation but that man put his heart into every match and kept them in the league without proper investment. i can't see a 'big' club looking at him but i'm sure he will land on his feet somewhere. truly a mistake on wolves' part.

Previous to the 0-1 goal against Man U, before Zubar got a red card and Davis left the field due to an injury, wolves looked solid. I think the team is starting to shaping up!

You are kidding yourself, mate.

Hey Gooner, I was in the Arsenal dressing room, when I heard of Mick getting the boot, and I happily predicted the disaster to the Arsenal stewards who were showing me round that Monday from Hell.

Fans should be able to sack owners. Fans cannot chop and change. We support the club, and we have to watch this embarassment week in and week out. Mick should have stayed. Morgan and Moxey should be booted out for trying to run our club like a bank.

Four or five years to put this straight now. Where is our next inspirational manager coming from?

Break with tradition. Re-hire Mick.

You haven't got a clue. Wolves were rubbish week in week out with McCarthy in charge. Losing 5-0 at home to your local rivals tells you the guy had lost the dressing room. Buying a pi55-head from local rivals and making him captain over the Wolves born Karl Henry really topped it all off. McCarthy was **** and i'll be glad as a Wolvesa fan to go down having got rid of him. The club will always be bigger than one man.

I find it difficult to believe a real Wolves fan would write the comments at 4:08 PM. You want to see your team go down just because you don't like who McCarthy chose as captain?! I'm a gooner but I've always liked the way McCarthy used his limited resources and the way he would often take the heat away from these limited resources (and that's an euphemism) when they played like shit. As soon as they fired McCarthy, you were done. It's hilarious that you couldn't find ANYBODY to take on the job and were stuck with the guy who used to carry Mick McCarthy's clipboard. Anyway, I suppose we should be happy that at least you're glad that you're going down.

The only mistake Morgan has made was not sacking Mick sooner. He should have gone after the Swansea game IMHO. McCarthy has spent £40 million and on what??? The only decent players he has signed is Doyle & Fletcher. O'Hara - crap! Johnson - crap! Hunt - crap! Mouyokolo - crap! Milijas - crap! Geudioura - Crap! I could go on. You look at examples like Norwich and Swansea, they have cost a pittance to assemble when compared to us and the embarrassing thing is barring Fletch and Doyle none of our mob would get into either of those teams! They also play much better football than us. End of the day the buck stops with mick!

re: comment @ 5:03 PM, did Swansea build the core of their team through the transfer market? No intent to ofend the locals, but has anybody considered that not only must good players be available, but they cost a lot of money and they must also want to join the team and live in the Wolverhampton area. Football management's a tough business - it's not like buying players on a PS3 - and I think you will realize just how difficult it is when you're languishing in the Championship under your new and "improved" management. I see the same complete lack of understanding and appreciation amongst the Arsene-haters, and it's galling to see this coming from people whose highest display of professional authority has probably been to order office staplers.

I am a West Ham fan and an Arsenal sympathiser. I also predicted what would happen the day they replaced McCarthy with Morgan. I predicted that a similar thing would happen to West Ham when last January the owners almost sacked Avram Grant only to change their minds and stick with him despite all his faults.

I don't see why you should sack an experienced and relatively successful manager only to replace him with his assistant! No disrespect to Morgan, but it just doesn't make sense. Something like this also tells the players that the owners have no ambition or faith in them and they have already accepted their fate. Truly unbelievable!
