The comments and indignation from Spurs fans was brilliant. Mind the Gap?

By 1970’s Gooner

It seems that yesterday’s post “Tottenhams breakdown already beginning” struck an extremely sensitive nerve among the Spurs fans. It is not always nice to be told some very apparent home truths about the sorry state that your team is marching towards.

Arkadiy an Arsenal fan said:

“Judging by the Sp*r's response, it looks as if they are all afraid that what it says is going to turn out to be true. Maybe the window of opportunity has just closed!”

Although most of the irate comments that were left by the Spurs fans on the blog concentrated on berating the quality of the post, none really countered the logical arguments posited.

MJB an Arsenal fan put it succinctly:

“Interesting that most of the comments are by spuds who are stating the article is 'bollocks' but don't state why. Moan that a gooner is 'obsessing' over their team yet the majority of postings here, on a gunner site, are by spuds. Apparently they get insulted at an opposition supporter stating the bleeding obvious totally oblivious to the FACT their team is in the shit due to the departing players and sacked manager who put them in a strong position last season”

A lot of Arsenal fans indicated the gap that exists between the two teams both in history and tradition as well as achievements on the football front.

GoonerMac commented :

“A daft article with very little substance and didn't really need to be written, unless it's a complete wind-up of the spuds. However the comments and indignation from spurs fans is brilliant, if not completely misplaced. A lot are dismissive of the article as being short on substance & fact yet don't counter with any substance or fact of their own.

Facts are that Arsenal finish above Tottenham consistently (16 consecutive seasons now I believe), Arsenal consistently finish in the top 4 and play CL football whilst Tottenham have managed CL qualification only once and Arsenal are one of only 5 teams to have won the EPL (Tottenham not being one of the other 4!!).

Every year we get the "this is our year and we'll finish above Arsenal" from Spurs and it never happens.

With the self destruct button looking like it's been pushed by Levy in sacking their only decent manager & backroom staff in recent history the trend for Arsenal to be the top North London team looks to be continued for some time to come.

Forever in our shadow.....oh & mind the gap - it could be getting much, much wider.

An anonymous reader wrote:

“Spurs fans are always there to try and ridicule or laugh at us. You’re like the ugly sister constantly wanting bad luck on the pretty sister. Inferiority complex, which doesn’t help the team one bit. Concentrate in your own game.

Oh and do mind that gap”

Who cares. its all about opinions you state SPurs are in decline and Redknapp is the best manager for years we dont agree. Personally I think Arsenal are in decline with RVP off to the parent club of man city. Arsenal are definately their feeder club and if any of your new purchases work out be sure to see them in pale blue shortly.

WAIT A MINUTE.

Hasn't our best player just signed a new contract (Bale) and we are about to announce a centre back who according to all Ajax fans is better than Vermealan.

And you guys are about to lose RVP who has a year to run on his contract and still hasn't committed himself.

Added to this you guys look just about done with your spending and we are just starting...Id say you are the ones having a fall.

Dont tell me AVB for Redknapp is a step down, Redknapp hadn't a clue about football as any football fan knows which is why we lost a 10 point lead

I think while the title of the arguement may have been correct it's content was poor. I also think that the Spuds are in for a rough few years but it's more because of their potential stadium move rather than getting rid of Harry, which I think is actually agood move.
They are where we were in the last days of Highbury but they don't have the same level of power (combination of players, club history, financial clout) or as good a manager as we had to get them through it.
If the aim of this site is to annoy the Spuds then congratulations, job done. But if you want to be considered as something more than a teenager you have some work to do.

1 point and you think you're so high and mighty!! How long will it take your new signings to settle in? Podolski and Giroud were great at the euros weren't they? Oh and RVP looked great too - HAHA. Modric made team of the tournament and in case you've forgotten he still plays for SPurs. I've had some very interesting info on our new manager and proposed takeover bid so you better get the digs in now cos you'll be laughing on the other side of your face come Friday... Watch this space...

And the Arsenal obsession with Spurs continues.
Unfortunately the Internet has given the passionless soulless it geeks who support Arsenal a forum to find a voice.
Let's be honest you won't here a squeak out of a goober in real life

Arsenal fans hating Spurs more than supporting their own club.

No wander they are considered the worst fans in football

Do give it a rest. I answered yesterday saying everyone was entitled to their opinion, however this sort of provocative question is only going to make people more hostile towards you. Having never lived anywhere near London, I don't get involved in this ''rivalry'' malarkey, it's just a shame others get so carried away with it on various sites. All I've seen on Twitter these last few days from Arsenal and Liverpool fans is Spurs bashing. You know why? Because we're the favourites for a couple of their targets. Pretty sad.

What top players have we sold to Man City? Kolo Toure? Adebayor? Clichy? Nasri? They've all been replaced with superior players, and when Clichy and Toure were sold, a large percentage of Arsenal fans were happy to see the back of them after their last couple of years. Wouldn't want any of them back.

You've got Bale for another season, but then he'll be off. Expect his form to take the usual dip during the season, especially when the rumours about a transfer to Man Utd start.

Looks as if Van der Vaart is off, who is just as productive as Bale, if not more so.

If Modric is anywhere near as good as Spurs fans claim he is, that's 50% of your team gone.

Ajax fans claim Vertonghen is better than Vermaelen? Well then it must be true, you'd never expect them to favour the player that still plays for them, would you? Vermaelen has improved since joining Arsenal and has proved his ability at the top level. Captained Belgium until his long term injury and plays at centre back, while Vertonghen is shoved out to left back...

Based on AVB and Redknapp from last season and not previous reputations, it is a step down. No reason to believe he'll be any wiser in the Premier League this time round. Redknapp has his limitations, but it was clear for all to see he got the best out of the Spurs players and they enjoyed playing for them. Don't think it'll be the same case for AVB.

Quite funny to assume Arsenal have completed their business, when the window has only just opened and we've still got 8-10 players on their way to generate even more cash. Could easily be another 3-5 signings at Arsenal, in addition to Podolski and Giroud. I can understand your frustration, though, must be quite difficult to take that Arsenal now have 3 strikers all superior to any you have left at Spurs.

Mind the gap??? a point! How sad how very sad and lets face it a gooner wouldnt know the truth if it jumped up and bit em on the Arsene and talking of Arsene, whenever has he been honest when his favourite saying is "I didnt see it!"??????? Arsenal fans obsession with everything Tottenham never wains, whioch makes me believe that they are all closet Spurs fans.....lmfao!

What really is so funny about you lot is the complete and utter silence about your right to be in the top division of English football. One which you have NEVER EARNED but Acquired through BRIBERY and CHEATING.
You can go on and on about us, but the above is FACT as admitted by your chairman in the 30s about the events of 1919.
So, it isn't just that you squat on our doorstep like vagrants but the fact that your club is inherently dishonest no matter how many trophies you win it will NEVER erase the mud which sticks to you as it does on websites like this.
When Wenger goes it will hit the fan.

Upthespurs1961 said...

Ok first off I'm a spurs fan. I'll get that out the way straight away.

Just wanted to say that this is actually pretty funny. As a regular reader of these blogs (both ours and yours to get the old enemy's perspective on current affairs), I have to say the idiotic comments made by our fans do put the rest of us in a bad light. I'll try to make a coherent counter argument.

First of all, yes 'Arry was our best manager for a very long time. He took a team that was deffinately going down in my opinion and turned us into real top 4 contenders. Nobody can take away from what he did for us but I %100 agree with levy when he says Harry was perfect for what we needed at the time. Basically inheriting a talented squad, giving it a good kick up the arse and galvanizing it with a few savy deals. Stabilizing. Do I think he was the man to take us to the next level? %100 no.

Firstly, his constant media whoring- giving away our team sheets days before a game, commenting on players' state of mind when it wasn't needed and constant flirting with the England job- was a massive headache for us fans so I can only imagine how much it annoyed the board...

Secondly, his tactics. Harry is a man manager. The best around. We know this and we new it when we hired him. It's why we did. But in the big games (the 5-2 at yours among many others) he was easily out-thought. He had absolutely no back up plan for our first choice line up and as the season went on and fatigue kicked in it cost us big time.

Third, his mentality. We constantly had to put up with comments about how spurs should be happy where they are and not looking up. Ok Based in truth but why not? If, as a football fan your not always hoping and praying your team makes that next step then what's the point? For our manager to be so negative? Not good enough for me. And that filters through to the dressing room.

So yes levy has taken a gamble but why not? The latest is it's looking like it's AVB and if that happens Joao moutinho looks likely to sign. Bale has signed a new deal. So while I can see why your all so hopeful of our impending demise I can't see it personally. Will we get top 4 next year? Honestly, I doubt it. But this is transition, not implosion as long as AVB is given the time he was denied at cheatski.

Oh and for what it counts I think you lot are going to be genuine title contenders again next year.

Anonymous said...

LOL @ Spurs fans pinning their hopes on Van Persie leaving. Not happening i'm afraid, whilst your best player, Modric, has already packed his bags. Shame, we might not even get the "we're finishing above Arsenal this year" started.

DR said...

Yes, you've signed Bale onto a big contract and if you get a Vertonghen it's a great step to help rejuvenate your defence, however I'm not sure Modric wants to stick around and if you can't get Adebayor on loan (a guy we were happy to get rid of btw) you're left with very little reliability up front. Combine this with the fact that Parker isn't getting any younger and your squad was too small to mount a sustained challenge at the sharp end of the season; it isn't a stretch to say you're going to perform worse than last season and I'd anticipate other teams performing better (yes, including the Arsenal) so it's not looking great.

GoonerMAC said...

Spuds again coming on telling us what they're going to do, who they're going to sign and who we're going to loose (Anon 10:58, Anon 11:01, Anon 11:15). Pathetic.

Who have you signed, apart from a measly 1 yr extension for Bale on inflated wages for an overrated player? What have you won recently?

It's easy to put the boot in (God knows we've been able to do it to your mob of useless twats for years) but you have no concrete argument and no coherent plan going forwards.

As for Anon @ 11:17 I say this regularly to spuds fans at work and there is no counter argument....because you don't have one. Arsenal fans aren't obsessed with spurs at all you are as insignificant to us as you are to the rest of the EPL & European football. A small team who's fans talk big but where neither deliver anything.

Mind the Gap.

Mark said...

You say MRB put it succinctly, but he didn't because he said it is a FACT that Tottenham are in the shit because of departing players. Well this can only ever be an opinion unless the FACT is that there are lots of departing players. At present there are none. Getting Corluka, Nico, Dos Santos, Jenas, Gomes and Bentley amongst others off the books is crucial. Together they earn serious money and NONE of them contributed anything last year. Next is to keep the crucial players - all have committed and Luka has 4 years left to run so Tottenham either force him to stay or get serious money. Tottenham have money to spend. As for the departing manager, Arsenal fans know that he is a tactical pygmy and you all take the piss out of him. Don't you think we realise this as well. Tottenham are about to appoint the manager that everyone wanted and who was stitched up by the Chelsea mafia and the fact that the billionaire owner wants instant success. AVB may prove to be rubbish, he may be brilliant. He will certainly be better tactically than Reknapp who has only one way of playing. So would I prefer to have Tottenham's squad or Arsenal's. Too close to call unless RVP leaves in which case it's a no brainer. The fact (although obviously it's an opinion) is, whatever Arsenal 'fans' say, the team is in serious decline. It has gone from winning and challenging for the title to winning nothing and just making Champions League (and let's be serious, this would not have happened without Fulop on the last day of the season). Arsenal fans are now totally obsessed with Tottenham who they dismissed as being irrelevant. The teams are on a par now - or you can decide that 1 point means that Arsenal are miles better if you want. I read articles and I just do not see Tottenham artciles about Arsenal. Everytime I go on newsnow there is another Arsenal article about Tottenham. Very strange. My advice - worry about what is happening at your club. Is you defence good enough - no; is you midfield strong enough - no; what will you do when RVP leaves?

Im a Man united fan from the outside looking in, it seems like every time I look on the comments section of a Arsenal site half of them seem to be discussing Spuds speculating about Spuds or belittling Spuds. When I check on Spurs site all I read about is who their gonna sign no matter how unrelistic the player is. Arsenal remind me of a big brother who is a bit worried that his ambitious little brother might one day fill out and knock his ass out. That happened with my brother. LOL

Who knows AVB could be an inspired move.Chelsea paid something like 13 million for him Spurs will get him for free.

The comments from the spuds are quite brilliant. Talking about us possibly losing RVP, whilst Modric openly seeks to escape. Taunting us for not winning anything in 7 years, when they have won 1 trophies in 20 years ( we have won around 10 trophies in that period).

The fact is your a moron that doesn't have a clue what he's talking about and got ridicled by your own fans for the poor article you wrote! Your bias picking of the very few posts that possibly back your dream world show what a complete knowledgeless tit you are. You should have a drink (if your old enough) with 'galway gooner' because he has just given a valid reason of why your post is poor and a better reason of why spurs if they are to do so may struggle a bit. He might be able to teach you. However, minus maybe modric and adebayor it will be the same team as the one who finished 4th 1 point off your lot who let's face it were relieved and helped to that spot by a calamity keeper at west brom! Spurs fell away in the part of the season due to redknapps poor tactics.

That alone should be enough reason to be taking the piss out of the planks.

LET'S ALL LAUGH AT TOTTENHAM.

Anonymous said...

This again is overly bias. Its all ifs and buts and means nothing. Giroud - might flop. Podolski - might flop. Rvp - might leave. Then there is bale - how do you know he will stay for one more season. Vdv - again how do you know he will leave. Modric again might leave but how do you know? Are we psychic?! Let's dismiss the fact Ajax fans were saying vertonghen was better than vermalen way before vermalen left for arsenal. Let's forget the fact that vertonghen can play left back as well as cb and that belgium 1- don't have a decent left back and 2- needed cover there when england played them. You live in a dream world if you think you have replaced nasri, clitchy and fabregas with 'better' players. Whoever comes in will be a step up. Redknapp had no status to potential players coming in. Whoever it will be, will be able to attract better players and will at least have some tactical no how. Redknapp was poor at this. Who's to say arsenal don't choke again? Wilshire gets injured again, rvp gets sold, vermalen and kocielny get injured along with sagna. All injury prone leaving you with that donkey mertesacker and the other clown. Arteta another notable injury prone player who managed to stay relatively injury free last season, will he get through a whole season again..as I said its all if and buts isn't it!

Anonymous said...

So you choose to forget that we have sandro a better player than parker and that squad you mention we didn't have which we did was not used because redknapp refused to rotate and then sent half of it on loan and replaced it with 2 injury prone has beens. Again another redknapp fault! Modric may leave but will be replaced. Adebayor was frustrating to watch. He missed chance after chance and given the opportunaty I'd rather sign a different striker. I think arsenal will challenge for a top 4 spot but will fall away and choke again. They have too many key players who are partial to injury. Vermalen, sagna, wilshere, arteta even rvp! Its a wonder how he has stayed fit for such a long period!! So to suggest every other team will perform and spurs won't seems extremely bias!

Anonymous said...

Mind the gap, Arsenal fans keep mentioning this to us Spurs fans. Be very careful because Arsenal will fall into the gap sooner then later. It's bound to happen. COYS!

Terry yid said...

I am a spurs fan and believe this is all nonsense. Nobody knows for sure how things will turn out, Iam looking forward to the new season with excitement we have a new training ground, a new stadium on the way we will have a new manager and who knows it may all work out for us ( it may not ) but it's a new challenge. At the start of last season we all believed we would be losing Harry to England so him going is not such a big deal, we may lose Modric but he did not play to his best last season his heart wasn't in it so if we sell and buy a replacement it's probably for the best. This season will be a challenge but isn't that what sport is about. I think you arsenal fans should worry more about your own shortcomings as I do not think everything in your garden is as rosie as you believe.
At the end of the day things could be worse we could be Rangers fan (dread the thought ) but thankfully both our clubs are financially wel run.
Good luck and I hope next season brings us another close run after it it does make it more exiting.

To be fair there's not a team on the planet that isn't bigger than any one player. But losing 2 or 3 influential ones at the same time throws everything out of sync. I'm a Gunner and to be fair last season (before 'Arry did his usual whoring himself off, history tells everyone it's what he does) I saw Sp*rs squad and thought to myself that I accept that at Arsenal, especially the way ours looked at the time!!! But then it all fell apart towards the end of the season... To our delight might I add... AVB wasnt given enough time at Chelsea, it's still Jose's old boys still. I think given time he could do something there but it won't be this season, if VdV and Modric go that'll destabilise the squad, after all when you think of their firepower I'd argue them two are more important to Sp*rs than Bale. He has a couple of decent months in a season ala Nasri and then nothing.

But I'm actually looking at the way our transfer window is going and feeling quite confident about the up coming season. Bringing in players at an age where they can do damage straight away instead of nurturing them through time, who knows, we might actually be able to throw a pot in that old cupboard come the end of the season... Hopefully it's that big c*nt with the crown on it... And no I don't mean Queenie, she's not a pot, just a mug...

Oh and that didn't happen too much last season ;)

Pathetic fans, no noise, no passion you should try WHL if you want to see some real fans of footie...

Anonymous said...

Loooks like some of my fellow Spurs fans have been tearing you a new ARSE-hole hahahah!!

Anonymous said...

Your ARSE must hurt with all the ripping going on - hahaha!

Anonymous said...

Surprised your new logo isn't a pair of hairy bum cheeks being shafted by all the players you once loved??

Arsenal are, and always have been a superior club to spurs. There is no countering that fact, the trophy stats from when football records began prove that. You can argue conspiracy this, cheat that, better fans the other, but the simple fact remains, Arsenal are the best club in north London, and I don't see things changing anytime soon. If anything they will be far worse when the time comes for you to move out of the sess pit you call White hart lane (I have been to it and it is a sess pit) . You have limited funds now, you'll be competing with the likes of Everton when the move does come.
And baiting you lot is to easy its now getting boring, but you kept me amused for a while.

Did you or did you not have 3rd place all sewn up with a 12 point lead. What happened to that lead please remind me...

When did spurs last finish above arsenal?

Anonymous said...

Laughing and a joking, Arse's are a poking - so bitter... Love the Emirates by the way, not soulless or faceless in any way... And you'd know about limited funds wouldn't you, pot, kettle, black...

Anonymous said...

I notice no spurs fans ha e commented on this one. Is thaat because they can't handle the truth...? Just wondering

Anonymous said...

Old Redschnapps is what happened or don't you read the news??

Anonymous said...

Why would we want to finish above you?? Would be no fun then would it - hahaha ;)

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Brong being a gooner who has nothing to play for but finishing above Spurs anymore...

Anonymous said...

Thought you used to aim higher than finishing a point above Spurs? You all seem like thats all you got left to crow about??

Anonymous said...

Oh and history now... Funny how the tables turn! ;)

Anonymous said...

Wow! Some of this stuff is pure gold - looks like we hit a nerve... GREAT! COYS!!

Anonymous said...

Of course you are superior in league placings but certainly not in any other way. COYS!!

Anonymous said...

When Bale plays on the left he is top, in any other role he is overrated for sure - he plays on the left, he plays on the left, GARETH BALE HE PLAYS ON THE LEFT!!! COYS!!

Anonymous said...

My grandads a gooner and he's a complete ARSE - nuff said really.

Don't deny we know all about tight finances, we're the masters of shoe string budgets. Also if white hart lane is so great, why are you lot wanting to desert that turd you call a ground, like rats deserting a sinking ship?
If your panel of comedians you call a board get there act together, you'll be getting your very own "faceless" ground. People, glass houses, stones...

Just thought I'd point out the title of this blog to all the spuds posting in here again...

The comments and indignation from Spurs fans was brilliant. Mind the Gap?

Anonymous said...

And what other ways are these?

Anonymous said...

You're leaving out the part about how Tottenham was still part of Middlesex when Arsenal was already established in North London. Ignorance is bliss I guess. In your own words, "how difficult is it to look it up?"

Anonymous said...

Knickers twisted eh girlies?? ERM - think you'll find that middlesex is north London and youre just being pedantic cos you know youre from South of the river - best you got eh??

Anonymous said...

The spud is right in one sense, we're not superior in the little man syndrome stakes. Angry little spuds thinking they are of any significance shouting the loudest to cover the fact they are never going to do anything of any real meaning.

Anonymous said...

More than you girls have to crow about. Your team knew its place, maybe you and your fellow spuds need to take a leaf out of their books, and learn yours. For ever in our shadow!

Anonymous said...

Best thing spurs ever did was start banging on about "mind the gap". Looks like your usual misplaced "oh look at us were so great" cockyness came back to rip you to pieces

Speaking of south of the river, did you know you knicked your name from a team south of the river? London Hotspur, they were called, until a club from Middlesex (Tottenham) stole their name, prompting the family of Harry Hotspur himself to write the Middlesex club (Tottenham) and tell them to please change their name. The Middlesex club ( Tottenham) refused and the rest is history. In the words of the famous Sir Henry Norris himself (the man who, yes, bought Arsenal's way into the top flight) in response to Tottenham's argument that London couldn't sustain a third club, "This might well be a matter for clubs from London, but not for clubs from other counties. Maybe Yorkshire and Lancashire have an opinion on London as well, and certainly if we listen to the opinion of Middlesex we must also listen to the opinions of Yorkshire and Lancashire." So there you have it, Tottenham are historically a Middlesex club who stole their name from a south London club, and did not become a North London club until 1965, four years after they won their last title at White Hart Lane. The Arsenal, on the other hand, were firmly established as a North London club 52 years earlier, and have won two titles at White Hart Lane in the time since Spurs won theirs in Middlesex in 1961. But, hey, why let the facts get in the way?

ERM - Wrong Again Durr Brain...

"The club was formed by a group of cricketers in 1882 as Hotspur FC and the prefix Tottenham was adopted three years later to avoid confusion with a team called London Hotspur.

Tottenham, based in the district of Haringey, was originally the village of a man called Totta.

The name Hotspur was chosen because of the fiery reputation of Shakespeare's Harry Hotspur, a character in his play "Henry IV Part 1". Harry was based on a 14th century ancestor called Sir Henry Percy of the aristocratic Northumberland family who owned large tracts of land in the Tottenham area in the 1880s and after whom the nearby Northumberland Avenue is named. The family were believed to have lived close to the ground in Percy House. Henry is reported to have been killed in battle in Shrewsbury in 1403.

He acquired his surname because of his frequent use of spurs when riding."

So you talk shit... And your best player is leaving HAHAHAHA - Stupid Goons!!!
