Arsenal confirms interest in Nikolay Dimitrov

By Aries

As you may recall Bulgarian Nicolay Dimitrov finished a week’s trial late last month and on his return to home soil has been very positive about his ability and his chances to play for Arsenal.

"I think I am capable of playing for Arsenal. Of course, I hope my transfer will become a reality in the forthcoming transfer window. I have heard that I have left positive impressions. Arsenal play quick and technical football and that is what I exactly like."

Well it seems that his optimism was not unfounded as PFC Levski’s official site reports that the club has received communication from Arsenal which is positive about the player. However it does not go as far as to make an official offer.

“PFC Levski President Todor Batkov received today (2nd January 2008) a fax from Arsenal which expresses the very positive impression which Nikolay Dimitrov made to Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff during his one-week trial in London and their wish to follow his performances during the forthcoming training camp of PFC Levski in Eilat, Israel”.

The site states that Levski has already given its consent for Arsenal to do so in Israel.

Levski set off for Eilat on January 6 and will train there until January 21. However, Wenger's scout will be allowed to watch Dimitrov in only one friendly, on January 20 against FC Dynamo Kyiv.

Dimitrov has played 65 matches for Levski, including 43 starts, since making his senior debut in the 2004/05 season, scoring 12 goals.

Touted as one of Levski's brightest talents, he usually plays on the left side midfield, but has also been deployed as a striker.

As you can see from the video clip he looks a very skillful left winger who has a very sweet left foot.

Dimitrov himself has declared during a television interview in Bulgaria that he is a staunch Arsenal supporter and hopes that the Premier league title comes to the Emirates.

"I hope sincerely that Arsenal becomes champion of England, still more now, after Manchester United lost to West Ham" he said.

It has been reported in the Bulgarian press that Levski will request 1 million euros for Dimitrov's transfer.

I'd love to know how you get hold of so many original stories!

Good stuff!

This is so obviously a wind-up. Your headline suggests something has come out of Arsenal but once again this is a convenient Bulgarian source that has not been picked up or verified by any other arsenal blog or news site.

We are on to you...

The article states its source for gods sake. It's Levski's official site! Go and try and verify it yourself.

So far anon the stuff on here has checked out. Most of the original items have had checkable Bulgarian sources, so either it's a very thorough wind up or maybe this guy either speaks Bulgarian or has a mate who does. That would cut out most bloggers! In addition arsenal.com confirmed the trial was genuine and that it had gone well. I know we've been had before but stop guessing and wait till there is proof.

Unless anon is from another jealous blog....

I think maybe this guy has a slight insider knowledge but even so this story does not say that the play will come. it just says the trail went well and we will keep an eye on him for a bit. so dont get too excited because Arsenal reach this stage with many players who dont end up signing for us.
either way its a very good story. cheers

I love how this small club is just so proud that Arsenal are taking an interest in one of their players. That is a good sign and hopefully many other smaller clubs have similar feelings. They obviously have a lot of respect for Arsene and Arsenal.

To anon 4.33
do you mean least or most imaginative site?

I can confirm the news. It was widely reported in all major and most respectfull Bulgarian media sources. However, my feeling is that the story will end up there and no contract will be offered. Dispite that, the player might join some other major club from the EPL, escpecially after the trials.
