Arshavin transfer is a done deal. Medical scheduled for the next two days

By 1970’s Gooner

As first reported on this site a long time ago when Arsenal put in an opening bid of £12m we can reveal that, contrary to what Arsene Wenger would like us to believe, the Arshavin deal is considered by the Russian media as already done.

In fact his medical has been arranged to take place in London in the next few days when the player is expected to join his new team mates.

Again contrary to what Wenger would have us believe the club is getting the papers ready for a work permit application to the Home office.

This has to be done in time for Arshavin to have a chance to play as soon as possible. It cannot yet be officially lodged as the signed transfer papers have to be part of the documents to be submitted.

It is reported that Arshavin has finally accepted to return half the amount of €5m he received from Zenit as his signing on fee for extending his contract with the club in 2006 for another four years.

It was agreed then that the player will return a part of that amount in accordance with the number of years he would have served of his four year contract.

The transfer fee appears to be £15m with Arshavin putting up the other £2.5m.

In the meantime Oleg Blochin, one of the all time top Russian forwards and now a coach, has predicted that Arshavin is not suited to English football and that he will struggle in the Premiership.

He considers him as too fragile and lacking the physical prowess to withstand the rigours of the English game. On the other hand he considers Tottenham’s Pavlichenco as the player that will do well in England as he is more strong and physical.

This remains to be seen however. We hope that Arsene knows best…

i hope we get him, we're lacking creativity in the middle.

we want veloso

Anonymous said...

Yes, we lack creativity in the middle, but Arshavin would not play there. Having said that, we lack creativity and quality on the right, so I fully endorse this signing.

Arsenal lack quality players, not defensive midfielders and such like. Denilson, Fabregas, Nasri and Arshavin is a fantastic midfield, Song, Diaby and Eboue are not.

Why is the Russian media any more reliable than the English media?

Oh, it's not? ok then

Anonymous said...

There's nothing new or original in this blog at all. Just a load of assumptions based on reports that have already been rebuffed by the manager and Zenit St Petersburg themselves.

Anonymous said...

And why am I an idiot because I think we need Veloso

Anonymous said...

Because nobody has seen Veloso play.

Anonymous said...

Beause you have rarely, if ever, sen Veloso play. Had you watched him play more than once you would see that he is not even as good as Song. He cannot tackle he does not run around the pitch, he was an awful center back and his passing is not even up to scratch.

Veloso is yet another Football Manager player who's reputation exists purely on that, just like Freddu Adu and Kerlon.
Arsenal need better midfielders, not a fucking defensive midfielder. Manchester United do not even have a DM.

Who is Pavlichenco ?

I totally believe that anon, of course you support Lisbon.

HAHAHAHAHA!

What a lier!

Where was he against Barca? I literally had to check the team sheet to see if he was playing.

Hi ok we are signing arshavin but Wenger mentioned in his press conference hes going for a DM maybe on loan. I think he might be going for christian poulsen or luca cigarini but holding midfielders. I hope Wenger gets a good solid DM

Anonymous said...

to tell u the truth i think arsene is fantastic at keeping secretes, if he gives even a hint of the deal is done, or even almost odne, a club with more munee to spedn wud be stright in enquiring about arshavin

Anonymous said...

When did Wenger say he was signing a DM? I don't think he has ever said that.

We don't need one, Denilson is performing brilliantly. He is my second best player of the year, behind van Persie to be honest.

Greatest respect to Arsenal Analysis, but where is this article sourced from?

Just curious.

As we all know Arsene knows best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The front wheels forever in our shadow EIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Proof???

Denilson is not reliable he needs to keep the ball more and when hes put under pressure he gives the ball away unlike song and diaby who can use thier strength to hold onto the ball. In saying that Denilson probably has better passing ability than diaby and song but he cant use his good passing ability because he cant hold onto the ball when under pressure. We need a diaby but who can hold and pass better

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't take Wenger's word on Transfers saying that we are not close etc etc. He wants to keep deals, if any a secret so Arshavin looks likley. Then again its been up and down so many times I do not know who to believe. Anyway only 3 MORE DAYS OF THEIS TRANSFER WINDOW LEFT YES!

Anonymous said...

ill only believe it when its on arsenal.com and arshavin is holding the fucking shirt.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:0, what rubbish. Denilson has completed more passes than and Arsenal player this season. He is FAR better than Diaby or Song.

Anonymous said...

Who can possibly think Diaby or Song are better than Denilson? Denilson's passing is BY FAR better than theirs (especially Diaby's, his passing is awful) and Denilson shows much more desire on the pitch than either of those two. Oh and he has better endurance as well.

Anonymous said...

We do not need Arshavin. We have too similar players already. Who will Wenger leave out? Van Persie/ Ade/ Walcott?
For all the critizon of Ade sell him & we have no strength up front.

Anonymous said...

Well i agree diaby's passing is very bad and i do not think that he THINKS before some of them.

But the one for van persy to score the screamer against everton was a peach of a ball and just maybe he will get better at passing!

He can hold up the ball better than denilson though, but even then at times he loses it while trying one to many.

Anyway the crack head is back in training and lets hope he can be back to his old best!

Anonymous said...

Walcott will be left out. He is not even close to Arshavin.

And also, he is exactly the type of player we need.

Anonymous said...

Diaby also floated in the pass that Van Persie Struck the header off. Diaby is a player with tons of potential that blows hot and cold. This is due to wegner playing him in all differant positions. He will come good the problem is that Arsenal to deal with the growing pains becase we are short on players at the moment. When it comes to Veloso he is no better than any of our midfielders at the moment, and will not help us in the short term which is what we need. At the moment we are in dire need of a creative midfielder. I hope that Arshavin is the answer as on his day he is fantastic.

Anonymous said...

Some of you bloggers talk shite. This is just regurgitated nonsense. Try being original or stick to facts

People saying that Denilson is already filling our role of DM are clueless. He gives the ball away constantly, can't tackle, doesn't work hard enough...quite frankly the list goes on and on I'm not saying Diaby or Song are any better but we need a strong tall bullocky defensive midfielder, we have never replaced Flamini or Gilberto for that matter and now Wenger is trying to make an average player (Denilson) into that role to save money. I think we'd be better off playing Kolo in the position.

Anonymous said...

It's puzzling how many of you can not see that we need a player that can win the ball in midfield, we need a player that can break a opposing attacks and quickly pass the ball to create our own. We are getting owned in the park reapeatedly.

We need a player that does the same job as Vieira or Makelele. Denilson is a decent player, but he is basically diet-Fabregas. So when Fabregas plays with him, Fabregas can not utilize his talents to the fullest, he has to do the job of a DM.

Song is not fit to wear the colours. Never has, never will. Diaby has been a disappointment, who's been played all over the field so it's not much of a surprise that he doesn't show any promise at one position.

Anonymous said...

Ok let's just make one thing clear. Denilson, diaby and song are players that by usual arsenal standards should be as far away from an Arsenal first-team place as mars is from earth. People seem to be whining about things that actually aren't a problem. Like what if Arshavin signs, what would happen to theo? what would happen to ade? and so on... I'll tell yo what would happen. There would once again be some competition at Arsenal. theo would raise his game, wilshere would (not saying he's far ahead of his age already though) raise his game and all the other players would to. With one exception hopefully; Ade and his cloud of smug would make all gooners happy by leaving this club for all eternity. (sorry for my poor language)

Anonymous said...

I remember all the Dutch papers & experts saying that Bergkamp will not last five minutes in the English game as he is too fragile....I thonk Arshavin is like Fabregas with great balance and awareness.

Anonymous said...

Wenger buying Arshavin shows two things: he's dissatisfied with Diaby (obviously) and satisfied with Denilson. Song is unsure but he probably views him as a good second midfielder.

The hard part about this is to realize that Wenger was never planning for this season to be the top season of his players. He expects Denilson and Walcott to be ready superstars next season, and maybe they will be? He bought Arshavin now to keep that CL place, I'm convinced he was planning to buy him in the summer but Fabregas injury changed that.

For those idiots who are so set in their minds on how an Arsenal player should defend. He either needs to sit back and do nothing other than tackle and mark players (Gilberto) or he needs to run around like a lunatic and make the job look as flashy as humanly possible, this is how Denilson compares to other "defensive midfielder's" who I am sure you lot would like to see here.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/2510186/Football-Rankings-player-statistics-and-team-details.html

Search for a midfielder and various statistics.

The lad is a class player and does a lot more than you allow yourselves to see.

Anonymous said...

You can get statistics to tell you anything you want.

Denilson for example has the most attempted passes and most completed passes but this info does not tell you if this was the right pass or not.

I think Denilson is a good player but I also believe that we really miss the intensity that Flamini brought us last season, enabling us to play at a high tempo and stretch teams.

The team was successful when it played a high tempo game with Vieira in the early Wenger years, had 2 fourth placed finishes when he left and was replaced with the less intense and proactive Gilberto then should have won the league last year with the high energy and tempo of Flamini in the middle of the park.

It would be grossly unfair to shoulder the blame for the team's lack of intensity solely on Denilson but I think that Arsenal would benefit from bringing in a CM who would play with him while Fabregas is out to provide us with this level of intensity.

Anonymous said...

So you will not consider the fact that we have poorer players on the wings and in the middle alongside Denilson?

Denilson is playing as well as Flamini was last season whereas Fabregas was not anywhere near his best (or at least the strikers did not finish as many chances). Eboue, Walcott and Denilson are nowhere near as good as Hleb and Diaby, Song or Ramsey do not touch Fabregas when on top form.

Denilson, on the other hand, is performing admirable within a pathetic midfield.

Arsenal lack intensity because they have poor players, not because they lack a man to win the ball back and pass it quickly. Denilson wins the ball back today and he has Diaby, Song, Eboue and Nasri to choose from. That does not compare to Hleb, Rosicky, Eboue and Fabregas.

Arshavin would be a player who improves the quality of Arsenal's midfield. Buying a central player, unless he was a quality footballer who can play as well as Vieira or Fabregas, would be an absolute waste of time and money.

Manchester United do not play a ball winner and they control games and relieve the pressure on the defence. Do you honestly think that Johnny Evans could truly replace Ferdinand with such little difference in results? No, Man Utd have four technically adept footballers who combine attack and defence. We have Song, Eboue and Diaby.

Arshavin - Diaby/Song - Denilson - Nasri is a fantastic midfield, it is ten times better than what we have right now because Arshavin is ten times better than Eboue.

Eboue - Denilson - Diaby/Song - Nasri is not good enough for Arsenal.

Anonymous said...

What shirt number will Arshavin wear?
No. 10 or No.13. As Defender, Gallas shouldn't wear 10.

Anonymous said...

Tosh, as usual

Anonymous said...

I guess today's match was further proof that we need a defensive midfielder after Denilson controlled the game with tackles, interceptions and passes whilst Vela and Eboue looked absolutely shocking on the wings?

Anonymous said...

to the guy who questioned whether i supported sporting veloso was actualy playing left back against barce for 70 mins because of injuries in the team so shut ur moth u fool veloso would be a great signing for arsenal

Anonymous said...

He may have played left back, but he is still far away from Arsenal quality. What gives you the idea that we need a DM? I think it is the last position in the squad, other than RB and LB, where we need to add players.

RM and AM are the main problems with the squad.

Creativity is a real problem for the first time in Wenger's tenure. But if you repeat something over and over again it becomes true doesn't it? Even if it is a complete myth.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone disputes the fact that we need more creativity and Arshavin would certainly help in the respect.

We had Rosicky and Hleb on the wings in 2006/7 and the team lacked intensity and urgency in their play then with Gilberto and Fabregas. Replacing Gilberto with Flamini the season after improved the midfield no end.

Wenger's teams have also been at their best with an intense centre midfielder and the seasons where we have not had one (this season included) have seen us battling for fourth place

Anonymous said...

diaby's injury does "not look too good"

That leaves us with Denilson, Song and Ramsey. Surely we need another centre mid now?

Anonymous said...

If Diaby is injured and we get Arshavin, I think we will play with:

Arshavin-Denilson-Nasri-Bendtner

The dane has done nicely playing to the right and he is much more of a goal threat than Eboué, who performed badly in yesterday's game. Nasri is strong enough on the defence to play in Fabregas position, whereas I doubt if Wenger would like to put Arshavin there without PL experience. The left wing is a nice place for Arshavin to move and twist, to assist and to score.
