If only Edu was convinced by Arsene Wenger to sign a new contract instead of going to Spain’s Valencia. I believe Arsenal would have gone on to dominate the Premier League for years to come.
Instead after belatedly, as it turned out to be, being offered an improved contract he had already made his mind up to leave Arsenal, cheesed off by what he considered the apparent lack of interest to keep him.
Sounds like the Flamini saga doesn’t it?
Wenger plucked him up from the Brazilian league side Corinthians where he had already won the 1998 and 1999 Brasileiro championships and the 2000 World Club Championship.
Seen as his finest so far in football, his 2003-04 season in midfield for Arsenal was capped by one of five goals against Internazionale in a 5-1 Arsenal victory. Arsenal went on to win the Premier league that season, unbeaten…
In May 2005 Edu left Arsenal on a Bosman ruling free transfer. Shortly after signing for Valencia he suffered a pre-season injury that ruled him out of first-team action until a year later. Further injuries however restricted him to just 44 appearances during his four years there.
Edu, now 31, has signed a contract with his old club Corinthians which will run till 2011. He will be presented to the Brazilian media tomorrow.
Good luck Edu..

"If only Edu was convinced by Arsene Wenger to sign a new contract instead of going to Spain’s Valencia..." H emight have spent 4 years on the bench at our expense rather than someone elses....
i think letting him go was the club's biggest mistake
Let's see: Edu arrived on a fake passport and was deported, postponing his Arsenal start by 18 months; then he was injured in his first game and missed most of the rest of his second season with us (scoring on own goal in his first full game); then, having already wasted two years, he had a couple of decent (but by no means brilliant) seasons, at the end of which pissed off on a Bosman. He then spent most of his Valencia career injured.
And you think we would have dominated the league with him?? I suggest you ask a Valencia fan what use he was to their cause. You think we messed him around? He cynically saw out his contract for a payday - if you don't see that, you're just naive.
Overrated player, not least by Edu himself.
And by the way, try writing an article rather than using copy and paste from Wikipedia!
You just got gunned!!!!
what a truly shit article. he left looking 4 more money + success + got neither
flamster had one good season in his favoured position, the whispering Iagos of Italy and f*** knows who else got in his ear, leaving aside the likely soliciting from his pimp-agent were more compelling factors to explain why he f****d off on a free to sit on the bench for the arch-crook's team. Oh, that massive signing-on fee must have had something to do with it, too. At least Hleb told Arsene that he wanted to go and wanted the club to get money for him.
LOL you just got fucking DESTROYED by the comment by 26may1989.
So hilarious, so true.
This site should be called "Arsenal Arthritis".
Edu was an ok player in a great Arsenal side. I always thought he was the weakest link in that unbeaten side.
Edu was one of the the first big time players to have left.As keown rightly said Arseanl are at the cross roads.
The coming season wil be make or break for AW.His kids better deliver or the repercussions could be the undoing of him and his policy of buy kids .The purchase of AA was an eye opener.
All along the analysts have said this 100% focus on kids aint going to work and they have been proven correct though it aint AW's fault due to the fnancial restrictions .
I'm afraid the board will have some earth shattering decisions to make with regard to financing recruitment.
As it is Arsenal fans pay the highest prices in the epl and the board cannot make excuses due to the debt.
Started a new blog tonight please check it out if you get a chance

Edu played the last 11 games of our 2002 run-in to the double.
Then Wenger thought he'd buy Gilberto and we choked at the Reebok in 03. Gilberto was brilliant - but never good enough to play Bolton, Blackburn, United and Spurs. Edu had the spirit for battle and an amazing pass.
Edu and Parls started our engine in the 5-1 demo of Inter too.
