Frimpong vs Coquelin and Squillaci vs Miquel. The choice is obvious

By 1970’s Gooner

Now Djourou is out. And Song too. Can Wenger find adequate replacements and still maintain the same level of performance?

The harder to replace of the two is Song in my opinion. He is the heart of the Arsenal team, a box to box midfielder who never stops running. He is also pivotal in the way Arsene Wenger’s teams play.

The team is set up in a very attacking formation with the 4 3 3 sometimes turning into a 4 1 2 3 with additional support in the attack from the two full backs. There is only one defensive midfielder there and Song has been along with RVP our most influential player so far.

His absence will be a big miss and whoever replaces him has a hard task to follow. The choice will be between Frimpong and Coquelin. I would go for the former as he has shown that he has the strength and power to replace Song like for like.

On the other hand Coquelin has played really well when called upon especially in the defeat at Spurs. He has really improved this season and he provides a more creative option in the centre of midfield.

Gibbs is out unfortunately. This leaves Squillaci and Miquel. I would have thought the choice between them was pretty obvious. Miquel played really well against City. He held his position effectively making important tackles. He wasn’t overawed by the occasion.

The alternative is to play Squillaci in central defence and move Vermaelen at left back. I hope that Wenger does not fall for this. I really do. Squillaci played in the defeat at Olympiakos and he was auful. Playing him against Bent’s heading ability or Agbonlahor’s pace would be suicidal.

If we play with the same determination and work rate as against City we should prevail.

Crappy article bro. Coquelin is the better option over Frimpong and Miquel is an obvious slot-in at left-back. Don't really see the point of t he article. Squillaci was actually decent against Olympiakos too...

song is available because cameroon didn't qualify for ACN. so no worries for DM position. but i think now wenger should seriously consider buying a full back.

I agree with 1970's. Miquel looks a very useful defender. It looks like that Wenger is getting his choices right in spotting defenders. Szceszny, Koscienly, Vermaelen,Sagna to name but a few

Song isn't available because he picked up his 5th yellow card it has nothing to do with ACN anonymous...Coquelin is def the better the option over Frimpong, he's a better tackler, more calm and collected with the ball and is a better passer. Frimpong is going to be great, but he's got to tune his skills. Miquel will go in at Left Back...enough said...

LB should not be a question since that was his choice to replace in game. Please note that Bent is out injured. So the choice to slot in Scillaci will look tempting but I would think AW will want to maintain some continuity
So.. Frimpong or Coquelin -- If he putting in a defense job. Frimpong. But i think he trust Arteta and Ramsey to share the defense duties against Aston Villa. They have been a woeful side lately and Coquelin will add some flexibility to midfield. This might have been the best chance for Song to take a much needed break

Coquelin is miles ahead of Frimpong in EVERY department except for Frimpong's physical stature. It's a no brainer when it comes to who is the better player when it comes to comparing these two youngsters.

Coquelin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Frimpong.

why not play this team ?

scezney
Kos Mert Verm Miquel
Arteta Ramsey Benayoun
Rosicky RVP Gervinho

I think Frimpong will be a liability if he starts.

Bent and Agbong are both out...

Absolutely agree with Nathan - Coquelin is the better player, Miquel is an only viable option and Squillaci played quite well against Olympiakos.

Ramsey is quality but is struggling with form, resting him for a game or 2 maybe a good route seeing as Yossi and Rosicky seem to be well up for the chances they are given...I always feel the lack of competition for places at our club has been a massive downfall. I strongly know like the rest of the world of football that Arsenal need a striker to help RvP, no more unproven in the premiership or the only football experience is from the 2nd/3rd tier of the football leagues go buy a proven premiership player. Yes we will pay over the odds for them but at the moment the lack of ambition from the average squad players is beyond belief and needs to be dealt with.
