Eriksson rates Carlos Vela

By 1970’s Gooner

Carlos Vela’s fine performances for Arsenal in the pre season friendly games has not gone unnoticed by Sven Goran Eriksson, the new head coach of the Mexican national team.

His spies in Europe have been impressed with Vela’s prowess in front of goal especially that fine effort against Stuttgart when he rounded Lehmann before slotting the ball into the net off the bar.

“I have an assistant that informs me of the performance of those in Europe. For example, Carlos Vela is going very well" Eriksson said recently in Mexico City.

This was during the press conference where he announced the initial squad made up of home players for the moment until the Mexicans playing in Europe join up. This is ahead of a World Cup qualifying game against Wilson Palacio’s Honduras.

Carlos Vela was also highly rated by Mexico’s previous coach, Hugo Sanchez, who sited his absence from the team for the Bejing qualifying games as a major reason for failing to qualify (and getting him the sack).

Eriksson can count a lot on the experience of these mercenaries who can fill all positions in the team except that of goalkeeper, which is held by Oswaldo Sanchez.

The Mexicans have shown weakness in the attack in recent years and Erikkson is seeking to change that, especially with strikers who play in Europe.

These are Carlos Vela (Arsenal) Omar Bravo (Deportivo La Coruna), Giovanni Dos Santos (Tottenham), Nery Castillo ( Manchester City) and Antonio de Nigris (Ankaraspor).

"We have enough to form a strong team. The number one goal is to qualify for the World Cup," said the Swede.

The final call up inclusive of the Mexicans abroad is likely to be some days before the 20th of August which is when Mexico will face Honduras.

This means that Carlos Vela will probably be available for Arsenal’s Champions League second qualifying game against FC Twente but will miss the chance of being involved in the first two league games of the season against West Bromwich (home) and Fulham (away).

Lets hope he comes back unscathed.

Vela is a top player and needs like most footballers a run in the side to show what he can do. Maybe with eduardo out still he may get a few games

Carlos Vela is overrated as most Arsenal fans like to cling on to new and upcoming players as salvation for the trophy less years that have gone by and will undoubtedly follow.

Hahaha, keep clinging to your overrated overpriced English players across the road! They beauty of it is that Vela cost a fraction of the price of both Bent and Bentley.

Our players are not overated as you will find out at your detriment this year where we will end up in the CL at your expense.

Your players cost a fraction of our players because you idiot they are worth a fraction in value compared to our players!

Keep jabbering dude. We'll be laughing at your dismay come May, like the past decade where we've always been doing.

please excuse across the road , he's probable from another planet there the scums win epl every year.....

Let me remind you that you only got onto then CL places a few seasons ago only because our players got poisoned in a dodgy London hotel....

At least we can buy some decent players as we can afford them unlike your lot who still have to pay off the Banks for another 17 years...

Ha ha that's a long time to be out of Europe realy....

haha y are u posting shit 'across the road' stop worying about our players mate worry about ur own! we dont pay much for our players cuz we got a genius manager! and ye we might of only got 4th place cuz ur team eat at shity cheap resturants but thats 1 season... the same season we got into the champs final come to think of it?... y dont u take a step back and have a good look at the big picture, ul never match the arsenal!

why don't you face the truth. Your kids are going to start well at the beginning then get knocked out of the Carling Cup followed by the FA Cup the CL and finally implode under the pressure get thumped by the big boys of Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and now the new Spurs revolution under Ramos who will prove to be a far more realistic and results oriented manager than Wenger will ever be.

At least we won a trophy which is something you haven't managed for how many years now?

Let's face it, Wenger is only at home training the kids he helped snatch off their foreign mother's hands. He can't handle big stars that's why he goes for the kids and this is proven by the fact that the big names always want to move on..

Lol. Don't mind the silly Spud...Years of inbreeding has ruined there abilities to see and think properly. Keep wasting that money and we'll laugh when you struggle to avoid relegation again! You'll never be top 4. Wasn't even top 10 last year!

Keep on dreaming you gooner fans! the fact is that with you win nothing with kids and you have proved that theory right by winning f.ck all.
The satisfying thing is that your imbecile coach keeps insisting on carrying on with an experiment that is again bound to hit the rocks and crash spectacularly as it did in the last few seasons and is bound to repeat itself time and time again.
Another trophyless year awaits you and then what? Insist that you were so close that you have to try with the experiment one more year?

Ha ha ha ONE MORE YEAR, ONE MORE YEAR.....

Vela (2.5M), Dos Santos (8.6M)
Adebeyor (3M), Bent (17M)
Nasri (11M), Bentley (17M)
Cesc (free), Modric (16M)
van Persie (2.5M), Berbatov (10M)

Arsenal 19M, Mugs 68.8

So... you spent 50M more to get a poor man's Arsenal..

LOL - Once a mug, always a Spud.

If you honestly believe that paying more for inferior quality makes you better, then thankfully you are the idiots in "idiots and their money are easily parted".

I wonder when St Totteringham's day will fall this year ? The day when it's mathematically impossible for Spurs to win the league.. oh wait that's right you are aiming for 4th...

The fact remains .. for the past decade your BEST points total is always less than our WORST.

Face facts, you're a jealous, spiteful, resentful mid table team with delusions of adequacy. Fuck off and compete for top spot in the bottom half of the table where you belong.

Ha!!! You just got owned!!!

The fact remains my Arsenal friends that you will always be second best to Man Utd and Chelsea. And soon you will be fighting for fifth place with shit teams like Everton and Man City !

greatttttttttttt blog!!!!

Chelsea spent upwards of 350M in order to break into the top two. ManUtd have spent in excess of 200M on top of an experienced golden generation from the late nineties.

Wenger spends a tiny fraction of that and manages to compete. Had we kept the lead at Old Trafford at the tail end of the season, we'd have won the league with that fraction of their budget. History tells us we didn't hold the lead, and ManUtd went on to win the League and ECL.

The fact that we are able to compete with >550M of talent with our kids is a testament to their ability and that of our coach.

Remind me again of your illustrious achievements and league finishes in the last decade...

You go on about spending so much money (and achieving very little) like it's a good thing. You are the Victoria Beckham of Football, lots of needless spending, achieved fuck all, crowing like you own the joint, misguided sense of self worth - living in the shadow of your better half.

Btw - are these shit teams (Man City and Everton) the same shit teams that have consistently been better than you ? Where does that leave you ?

And guess what - shit has a habit of sliding down not up. (See Lasagne for more details)

sigh...Back to Vela...

Nasri & Diaby & Rosicky being out (not to mention Fabragas),
we have nobody on the left !

Can VELA play on the left midfield against Twente? Who else is going to play there? Wilshere?

Walcott usually plays on the right...and Vela was left winger in Spain all last season
