The news coming out of Arsenal with regard to injuries is not good.
Alex Hleb is out for 21 days with a hamstring injury picked up playing for Belarus against Holland (2-1). He was substituted at half time.
Mathieu Flamini was sent home by Domenech after he picked up a thigh injury in the seven minutes he played for France. He will be out for one week.
Abu Diaby hurt his back against the Slavia Prague game and has not participated for the France Under 21s. He will be out for three weeks.
Robin Van Persie’s knee has not healed sufficiently and he needs another ten days before making his come back. He will also miss the Sevilla Champions League game in Spain.
Gilberto will return very, very late from international duty with Brazil and he will only come back on Friday jet lagged!
Cesc Fabregas stupidly went and got himself yellow carded so he is also out of the Wigan game.
Philip Senderos is back though which is small consolation as he is not likely to start anyway.
The selection dilemmas for Wenger will be focused on the central midfield positions and on who will partner Adebayor up front.
Gilberto obviously is a definite starter if he can get back in time from his duties as captain of Brazil.
For the other central midfield position it looks like a straight choice between Denilson and Diarra as Song’s only outings so far have only been a few last minute substitutions.
It will be interesting to see which Wenger will choose although Denilson is more of a creative player and creativity will be needed to compliment Gilberto’s industry and defensive inclinations.
Up front I think Eduardo will get the nod as he looked sharp for Croatia on Wednesday night.
So Wenger will be forced to field a Carling Cup side for Saturday. The possible 11 are as follows:
Almunia
Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
Eboue Gilberto Denilson/Diarra Rosicky
Adebayor Eduardo

Hardly a Carling Cup side. Apart from Diarra and Denilson all the others are regular first team players and Theo has made several sub appearance already this season.
I certainly don't expect Gilberto to start on Saturday as he is listed on Arsenal.com as one of the players unavailable for selection.
A Carling Cup side? In case you didn't notice in the Carling Cup we field an almost entirely different team. Here there are only Fabregas, Hleb, Flamini and RvP missing and as good as they all are, if we can't comfortably beat Wigan with Diarra, Denilson, Eduardo/Bendtner/Walcott and Walcott/Eboue then there's something seriously wrong. It's not even close to being a Carling Cup side and Gilberto ALMOST certainly won't play since there's no need for him to start. This article is just badly thought out.
if thats a carling cup side with a first choice back 5 (assuming lehmann is unforgiven), 2 (rosicky and gilberto) of what was our first choice midfield last season, and 1 out of 2 of our first choice strikers then im bloody happy!
Gilberto was late coming back form international duty before the Spurs game and he did start. So Arsene will probably field him again.
should just play 4,3,3 vs them or even 4,2,4
almunia
sagna gallas toure clicy
diarra gilberto
walcott ade bendtner dudu
Gilberto only played at centre-back when he came back late and he looked shaky - the bench for him, I think.
Almunia
Sagna-Toure-Gallas-Clichy
Walcott-Denilson-Diarra-Rosicky
Eduardo-Adebayor
Only question is whether Eboue keeps out Walcott or Eduardo (in which case Walcott plays up front)
NOT A STUPID CARD.....I`d rather miss Cesc against Wigan home than away to Villa, Newcastle or Boro.
or against Chelsea for that matter
This is indeed a poorly thought out article with a misleading headline to boot.
The back five will be the usual suspects.
The midfield is likely to be Rosicky, Diarra, Denilson & Eboue.
Adebayor will be partnered by Eduardo or Walcott up front.
Gilberto won't be on the bench...Senderos & Song will provide cover for the centre half & midfield positions respectively.
almunia
sagna toure gallas clichy
eboue diarra rosicky eduardo
walcott
adebayor
Gilberto will NOT start with the jet lag. And the gaffer will avoid too many other changes knowing that the center of midfield will be missing Cesc/Hleb/Flamster. So I expect:
Almunia -- Sagna, Kolo, Gallas, Clichy -- Eboue, Denilson, Diarra, Rosicky -- Ade, Eduardo. With a bench of Mad Jens, Gilberto, Song, Bendtner, and Theo
Hope it is a Carling Cup team you lot put out.....remember 2 years ago....Little Wigan beating the might of that foreign team, Arsenal. Perhaps you can hope for a late replacement of referee with your beloved Phil Dowd coming in to ensure a home win.
Be afraid... Little Wigan are about to strike again
To the Wigan fan
Dont be too cocky mate, you will be lucky to get away with less than 5 goals against you as your fellow relegation certs Derby got not too long ago!
I feel sorry for the Wigan fans who have to go back a few years to find any success they had against Arsenal.
You will get thumped on Saturday
