I don't agree with Paul Merson

 By 1970's Gooner

I must say that I cannot agree with Paul at all. Eddie Nketiah has shown that he has what it takes to become a very prolific striker in the Premier League. He has shown that given a decent run of games and the confidence of his manager that he has the attributes and the determination to rise to the occasion, improve his game and contribute towards achieving at least a top four position for next season.

The addition of Jesus will provide the fantastic forward that Arsenal so lacked last season. But you can't rely on only one forward all season. You need to have at least two who will push each other but also give support and step in when injuries, suspensions and loss of form occur.

But they can also play together as Jesus is just as good playing on the wing or indeed they can play as a front two if Arteta feels that a switch to that formation especially when chasing a game is merited.

In my opinion Nketiah will kick on now and prove everyone who doubted him wrong. In fact don't be surprised if at some point he puts in such performances that he gives Arteta severe headaches in having to choose who to start up front.

I absolutely agree. He has proven in senior games he can create and score.

Great news Paul thinks this. What ever he says the opposite tends to happen

I’m one of those gooner’s that have doubts over Eddie but he has a new contract now so as an arsenal fan I hope he proves me wrong and bangs in 20 goals next season. I have a high ceiling of expectation when it comes to strikers I grew up idolising Ian wright, appreciated what Kevin Campbell and Alan smith bought to the table aswell, then of course there was Dennis, Thierry etc I could go on. I think Eddie and Jesus suit what Mikel wants to do and that is high intensity pressing from the front and they both will complement how he plays, so we should be excited for next season we have a young enthusiastic squad a title winning centre forward added to the ranks so let’s hope we can kick on first and foremost and get to those champions league spaces

Eddie Nketiah will fight Gabriel Jesus for the CF spot and will win the battle...IMO.

We shall see the best of the 2 of them.... because their competition will win us trophies.... I strongly believe.

Paul Merson has been wrong years and years again. He really doesn't understand the game well.

Eddie’s record for England U21s and his league cup performances speak for themselves. His lack of playing time for Arsenal is an injustice. I assume Paul Merton was under the influence of alcohol again when he wrote this

The truth is Eddie Nketiah is probably the only reason we even looked like we were fighting for the 4th spot.
He will be even better next season.
