Denilson and the referee condemn Arsenal to another defeat

By 1970’s Gooner

What a difference Chamack made when he came on. We started to hold the ball more in the attacking areas and thus brought the midfielders in the more threatening positions.

We even won a penalty. Stone clear but the referee and his aides (!) at the back of the goal got it wrong! If we had gone ahead, then it was game over and everyone would have been saying what an “efficient performance by Arsenal”…

Added to the referee’s ineptitude was Denilson’s total inability to offer any defensive cover for Djourou and Squillaci when they went forward in Braga’s area to try and take advantage of a dead ball situation. On both occasions in the second half we let in two goals!

Denilson who was left behind as cover was nowhere when the goal scorer raced through him for a clear run on goal. And for the second goal he decided to foul the player as the ball was coming out of Braga’s area instead of staying with him and delaying him.

Is it really necessary for both Djourou and Squillaci to go forward?

I thought Bendtner was awful tonight. He never got going, was always coming infield to receive the ball but at the same time crowding Fabregas out. Most important of all he never held the ball well.

He should shut up and try and get fit before he starts mouthing off. Arsene Wenger should not have started with him. Chamack should have been there at the start, done the business and then given a rest in the latter part of the game.

With Fabregas out of the Villa game I hope that Wenger gives Nasri the role of playmaker behind Chamack. I am sure he will make Fabregas’s absence go unnoticed and prove that if Cesc does leave in the summer we have a ready replacement.

Villa watch out…

"We need to realise the games are hard." Johan Djouou, about an hour ago.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN. ARROGANCE.
What the f**k is this attitude?? Why don't they know that games are "hard" already????

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

We were down to ten men, it was nil-nil at the time, we only needed a point, so what on earth were the centre backs doing up there in the first place?

You can't look to blame Denilson for the manager's tactics.

Here come the apologists for Denilson. Irishman did you see what a poor player he was last year? and nothing has changed!

Stoke put us out of the FA Cup because of Denilson.

Man Utd put us out of the title last year because of Denilson.

Chelsea put us out of the FA Cup the year before because of Denilson.

Spurs got hope at weekend with Bale because Denilson forgot follow his run.

How much did we waste on Senderos? How many CL chances at Semi and QF stages? Arsene trying to prove that Denilson is a good player.

This is beyond a joke..

Last time I checked a penalty isn't a goal until someone steps up and scores it. And if you're talking theoreticals we still would have lost 2-1. Wenger's a joke, his tactics a joke and his shit team is a joke. He should resign tomorrow.

shut up denilson had a good game intercepting opposition balls through the game people want to see the real cause of the current problems ie bendtner says hes a great striker so why was he playing on the wing that why chamakh made a difference because he is a striker and done what a striker does by playing through the middle and disrupting the braga defence

and

why squallic goes up for a deadball situation i dont know cos he cant head a ball to save his life he can tackle he can thump the ball 50 yards down the pitch but CD cant header a ball

arsenal only need two new players and they willcost a combined £20-£22m they are Shay Given and Gary Cahill

Indeed. "Should've had a penalty" is just no excuse. Braga did a job like Spurs did on Saturday. Wenger's Emperor's new clothes are falling off. Time to find a new tailor.

the problems with our defeat are not wengers fault.......the problem is our arsenal players do not shoot from outside the box. we have many players who can strike a ball ie nasri, rosicky, arshavin etc....shots from outside the box can make a huge difference. hopefully the boys start to shoot earlier when they get into the positions they do

poor Denilson, every time we lose he's to blame. shut the fuck up all of you, Denilson was the only player who had a decent game. first you need to understand what his duties are, Cesc, Jack, Nicklas, Theo they all played bad. Cesc was way too relaxed for a player that has been warning his team mates about complacency. did anyone notice how he took the first free kick? i've got a 5 year old nephew that would have done better than that. truth is, most of you don't like Denilson, and that has nothing to do with wheather he plays well or not but you can never take away the fact that he was the only decent player for Arsenal, alonside Rasicky.

Last night was a truly baffling performance, 71,4% possession and only 1 shot and target AND lose the game?!?!

Yes, the ref was bordering on blatant cheating, but the fault doesn't lie there.

I recall a few seasons back fungusbum was getting similar flack to what Wenger is getting now. The question is, can Wenger turn it around like fungusbum did?

Somehow, I'm just not so sure.

One problem I do have with the fans is the lack of understanding many display about football.

Denilson continually gets slated for being a poor footballer etc, by the same fans who are wrong time and time again about our players.

Last night Denilson was one of our best players by a country mile. Yes, he did get caught on the first goal, but where was the faster cover to back him up?

To illustrate the hipocrisy, I see Wilshere gets a complete pass from everyone, but he continually have the ball away in dangerous areas, but not word on that from the fans, only slating Denilson who was way, way better on the night (and a lot of other nights too).

Enough of a rant though.

Sadly, I think we're seeing a wonderful tenure at the club crumbling into dust.

If we fail to get into the knock out rounds of the UCL I think Wenger should be taking a long, hard look at himself.

Either he re-invents himself (ala fungusbum), or if he just cannot, then it's time to go.

we miss Vermalen so much..
First goal was schillachi playing matteus onside.. Silly to say..
Second was schillachi unable to clear the ball. Damn silly..

If you play for 82 mins without a goal anybody knows that you dont try to score but defend the score line… Particularlly when you need just a point to qualify…

Painfull, but hope Wenger and Kids learn…

its good to see Wenger blame everyone but himself again. So what, we didnt get a pen. who cares. we were absolutly shite uptil then and to top it off a lack of defensive sense let us down again. Wenger should have played the strongest team possible not only last night but against shaktar to make sure we won the group and then he could have rested as many players has he liked in the last match. but no. wenger sees it different, 'play a weakened team and just hope we can get the point to get through'.

I am 100% confident we will hammer partizan and qualify. however finishing second has now left us in the crappiest position going into the next round. if spurs finish top of their group it will leave us with the chance of playing 1 of four teams, 2 of which are lyon and bayern saddly the other two are Barca and Real Madrid. we already saw what happened when we played barca last year and with wenger having 0 victories over Mouriniho i dont fancy our chances against madrid.

So, thank you arsene for buying wonderful players like denilson, squallaci and rosicky for me to watch. Its like all my fucking christmas's all at once

I agree with every word written in this article. Our centre backs dont score when they go forward anyway so why go and get caught out in a counter attack. Kos should never be allowed to cross the halfway line cos he just cant score.
I wish the boss changes players a bit more quickly in matches. At Arsenal, the most inefficient player gets at least 70 mins

Wenger should sell Denilson but guess his price must be bad now. We need some very good center back, sorry but whatever option we have today I seriously doubt that they can compete with the combination of Ferdinand + Vidic or Terry + Alex. Another thing is we really miss a striker as good as Henry.

It`s simple. It`s the opposite to what our Gaffer has said. Our present squad ISN`T the strongest we`ve had for the last 14 years. It is , without doubt, the weakest.
Take out Samir and Cesc and the rest is all very ordinary. This squad does not deserve to live in the shadow of the 04/05 squad
