Foreign clubs flirting with Arsenal trialist

By Aries

Tresor Mputu, as has recently been reported on this site, has finished a ten day trial at Arsenal but as yet there are no official news.

This is after Wenger himself stated that he was impressed with the player and the player’s agent predicting that the deal was as good as done!

It appears that Wenger was delaying making a decision so that he could also assess Bulgarian Dimitrov. He finished his week long trial at the end of December.

However this delay has energised Standard Liege’s sports director, Dominique D'Onofrio, who had shown a very keen interest to bring Mputu to Belgium prior to Arsenal “high jacking” the player.

“We sent the invitation to the player, it is up to him to decide. For his first experience in Europe Standard Liege can be a good step”. We will not wait forever" He said recently.

However it appears that a firm offer has in the meantime been made for Mputu by the Tunisian club l'Espérance according to the official Standard Liege site.

The president Hamdi Meddeb pointed out that he was on the point of finalizing the deal. This however is to the astonishment of Fabio Baglio, Mputu’s agend!

" It would surprise me that the transfer is successful " he said. " There remains a very small chance that he can land in Standard Liège, but the most likely is that Mputu remains for six months more in Mazembe (his club), before finding a good European club. "

It seems that another trialist bites the dust. Wenger should be believed when he says he will not buy anyone in the window!
